Crimson Desert releases a new update: Optimized keyboard controls and added inventory to barracks.
Yesterday, March 23rd, developer Pearl Abyss officially released update 1.00.03 for Crimson Desert , aiming to fix control and difficulty issues – the most frequently complained-about aspects by players recently.
The latest patch not only focuses on improving system stability but also comprehensively restructures the user experience across controllers, mouse, and keyboard. In the update notes, the development team stated that they have incorporated a large amount of community feedback to make exploring the Pywel continent smoother, specifically by optimizing character movement response speed and adding "one-touch" shortcuts to function panels such as Inventory (key I), Skills (key K), Journal (key J), and Map (key M).
Specifically, the game now supports default configurations for the mouse side buttons, allowing players to set side button 1 for blocking/aiming and side button 2 for dodging, making action combos much smoother. For players using a controller, the display speed of the interactive interface and the responsiveness when jumping have also been significantly improved. Pearl Abyss has also fixed the vibration loss issue on the DualSense controller in certain situations, and adjusted the aiming mechanism to be more free-flowing instead of locking onto the target as before.
Besides control improvements, this update also brings a significant change: the addition of inventory chests at Greymane Camp, helping players overcome the worry of overloaded inventories. The difficulty of QTE challenges such as arm wrestling or escaping enemy crowd control effects has been reduced; at the same time, the health and attack power of some bosses have been adjusted lower, along with reduced stamina consumption when blocking attacks.
Notably, to enhance survival, the amount of health restored from materials and food has been significantly increased, combined with the addition of many new food types at taverns. The patch also includes graphical adjustments such as improving the waterfall effect in the Abyss tutorial—which players criticized as looking "too artificial"—while fixing visual glitches when enabling FSR or DLSS Ray Reconstruction and adding a 120Hz mode option for PS5 and Xbox.
The improvements in the update were immediately noticeable. As of the morning of March 24, 2026, the game's Steam rating had jumped from 51% positive (mixed) to approximately 79%, officially bringing the overall rating back to "Mostly Positive". According to SteamDB data, yesterday alone, the game received over 6,000 positive reviews while only about 150 were negative, indicating that the majority of players are satisfied with the latest changes to Pearl Abyss.
