PS5 Pro expands PSSR, several major games upgraded this week.

Sony has confirmed that the PSSR image enhancement technology on the PlayStation 5 Pro will continue to be rolled out to more titles this week, including notable games such as Monster Hunter Wilds , Silent Hill F, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth .

PSSR is a machine learning-based upscaling technology developed by Sony specifically for the PS5 Pro, allowing for increased image resolution without significantly impacting performance. This technology first debuted with the PS5 Pro in 2024, but has received some mixed reviews regarding display quality in a few games.

The recently improved PSSR version is based on AMD's FSR4 platform and was first introduced in Resident Evil Requiem earlier this month. According to Sony, the new update will begin rolling out on March 16th, Pacific Time.

The list of games supported in this rollout includes Alan Wake 2 , Control , Dragon Age: The Veilguard , Dragon's Dogma 2 , Final Fantasy VII Rebirth , Monster Hunter Wilds , Nioh 3 , Rise of the Ronin , Senua's Saga: Hellblade II , Silent Hill 2 , and Silent Hill F.

Additionally, Crimson Desert will also support PSSR upon its release on March 19th. Sony further stated that Assassin's Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077 will receive patches supporting this technology in the coming weeks.

In their analysis of the new PSSR implementation in Resident Evil Requiem , the Digital Foundry technology team considered it a significant step forward. According to them, in ray tracing mode, the game can upscale to 4K from a native resolution only slightly above 1080p, while still maintaining high detail.

Small details like the stitching on characters' clothing or text in the environment are clearly displayed on the 4K screen, while the sharpness of the edges is also significantly improved. The end result is a convincing 4K image quality at 60fps, true to PSSR's original goal.

However, some image noise still appears in ray tracing scenes, but analysis suggests the cause is not PSSR but Capcom's noise reduction system. This phenomenon is also present on the PC version even when using other upscaling technologies such as DLSS or FSR.
