Fans of the classic role-playing game franchise Final Fantasy will likely have to wait in disappointment, as the latest leaks suggest that the remake project for the ninth installment is currently on hold at Square Enix.

In a recent podcast episode, NateTheHate shared the latest updates he received regarding the potential release of a remake of the legendary JRPG Final Fantasy 9. According to him, this highly anticipated project is currently on hold at Square Enix.

NateTheHate stated:

'The last update I have is that the game is still on hold. For Square Enix, this means they might return to the project sometime in the future, but from what I've heard, there haven't been any new developments yet. Hopefully, they'll restart it someday and we can see a Final Fantasy 9 remake come to light.'

This information is certainly not what the gaming community was expecting, especially after the resounding success of the Final Fantasy 7 remake projects. Recreating the seventh installment not only breathed new life into the classic game on the original PlayStation system, but also boldly expanded it into a trilogy with many daring changes to the storyline.

Based on NateTheHate's comments, it's clear that the road to a Final Fantasy 9 remake reaching players is still very long and completely undefined.
