Could the RAM price crisis cause delays in the release dates of future console generations?

According to Insider Gaming, the rising price of RAM due to AI technology could significantly delay the release of future console generations.

In a recent episode of Insider Weekly, Tom Henderson and other members of Insider Gaming discussed rumors in the gaming industry.

Specifically, according to them, there are rumors suggesting that a shortage of RAM will have a huge impact on the production of next-generation consoles.

'From what we've heard, the entire industry is concerned about the RAM shortage (something they should be addressing) as well as the potential impact this could have on producing competitively priced consoles.'

This isn't limited to next-generation consoles; it could also lead to further price increases for current consoles into 2026.

Recently, RAM prices have increased dramatically due to the growing demand for AI development. Because this demand doesn't seem likely to decrease anytime soon, this means the RAM shortage will likely continue – meaning prices will continue to rise.

In particular, this phenomenon has put console manufacturers in a relatively difficult position.

Although regular consoles will be subsidized to a certain extent, it seems that RAM shortages and rising prices could make future consoles – which are already expected to be expensive – unreasonably costly.

"Based on what we know, this situation has led console manufacturers to debate whether new console releases should be moved away from the projected 2027-2028 timeframe , hoping that RAM manufacturers will be able to expand their infrastructure to produce more RAM , thereby allowing prices to fall."
