Chronobreak, the ultimate tool in the professional arena.
In a professional match, game glitches and interruptions happen occasionally, and it's certainly not a pleasant experience for either the players or the viewers.
In a recent match during the LCK Summer 2022 season between K1 and HLE, Chronobreak was used extensively in the third game.
So what is this tool? In this article, let's explore this amazing tool with Gamelade.
What is Chronobreak? The history of Chronobreak
Actually, Chronobreak isn't the official name of this tool.
During the match between Cloud9 and FlyQuest in week four of the LCS North America Spring 2017 season, an error occurred that caused the game to be halted midway through.
And this is Riot's chance to introduce a brand-new tool they've developed to address bugs that inadvertently appear in professional play.
Its correct and full name is: Deterministic Disaster Recovery Tool.
Riot Games introduced a new tool to help resolve game bugs. However, because the working principle of this tool is similar to Ekko's ultimate ability, the global League of Legends community has dubbed it Chronobreak (short and easy to remember).
Chronobreak – A groundbreaking tool for time.
During that match, Miss Fortune experienced a visual glitch with her ultimate ability, Bullet Time. Despite continuously dealing damage, its range was completely obscured. This significantly impacted the players' experience, forcing a temporary pause in the game.
However, with Chronobreak, the match can continue without having to reset the game from the beginning, and that bug is completely resolved.
In the 2016 LCS North America Summer Semifinals between Team SoloMid and Counter Logi Gaming, a visual glitch involving Aurelion Sol caused a temporary pause, forcing a restart. As a result, the Celestial Dragon was banned, completely disrupting CLG's advantages and strategies centered around the champion, playing a significant role in TSM's 3-0 victory in this best-of-five series.
And after numerous unfortunate incidents, Riot Games found a solution with Chronobreak – Time Break. Its introduction eliminates the need for complete replays of matches.
The effect of the ChronoBreak tool: It's not necessary to recreate the entire match. By restarting the game from before the error occurred, it allows teams to avoid starting the match from scratch. It not only fixes errors but also helps teams maintain their strategies and advantages.
This tool increases the advantage for underdog teams. This is the most amazing benefit of this tool.
Imagine this: when the game resumes to the period before the error, the gold and experience difference between the two teams is reduced. This is a fantastic opportunity for the underdog team to seize. Not only can they change their playstyle in time, but they can also turn the tide if they capitalize on it well.
Providing a better experience for both players and fans. While an abrupt pause due to a game bug isn't a pleasant experience, it's still better than having to start a whole new match, right?
With the introduction of ChronoBreak, Riot Games has marked a major step forward in the development of professional League of Legends, transforming it into a true esport.
