Star Wars Jedi: Survivor remains a must-play game for Star Wars fans.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor tells a familiar yet fresh Star Wars story.
One of the major challenges the Star Wars franchise has faced over the past decade is striking the right balance between a fresh story and something that retains enough familiar rhythm to feel like it belongs in the same universe. Too often, this has resulted in some Star Wars projects feeling too similar to stories that have already been told, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens being a prime example.
Fortunately, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor manages to strike this balance very well. On paper, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor offers a fairly familiar adventure, with hero Cal Kestis venturing across the universe to fight the oppressive Empire, with plenty of flashy sword battles and explosive situations along the way. However, the storyline of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor spans a great deal of unique flavor, from enemy selection and connections to the High Republic era to the protagonist's vulnerability, all of which help keep the Jedi: Survivor story fresh.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor boasts high-quality gameplay.
But it's not just the unique storyline of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that makes it an unmissable experience for fans. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order laid a solid foundation for its sequel, especially in terms of gameplay. Inspired by games like Dark Souls and Castlevania, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has a combat system that's much more engaging and satisfying than many previous Star Wars games, along with some coherent movement mechanics that make exploration enjoyable.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor improves upon most of the gameplay foundations of its predecessor, resulting in a sequel that feels even more worthwhile and satisfying to play. Jedi: Survivor's soul-like combat mechanics feel refined, and the array of new glowing sword stances adds a layer of variety and complexity to combat. Jedi: Survivor's movement mechanics are also excellent, with them more integrated into the world. Jedi: Survivor also boasts a range of meaningful upgrades, all unlocked at a steady pace, constantly stimulating the enjoyment. While there have been some great Star Wars games in the past, few have controlled or played as well as Jedi: Survivor.
