A live-action Sifu movie will be produced by Netflix, with the director of John Wick at the helm.
In December 2022, less than a year after Sifu officially launched on PlayStation and PC, it was announced that the game would be adapted into a live-action film. At the time, Derek Kolstad – the screenwriter of the hit action series John Wick – was reportedly in charge of the script for the Sifu live-action film. According to the latest information from Deadline, Netflix has joined the team and will be responsible for producing the film. And of course, the film will also be streamed on their platform. Kolstad is not mentioned in Deadline's article; instead, TS Nowlin – the screenwriter of The Maze Runner – will be writing the script for Sifu. However, Story Kitchen, Kolstad's production company, is still listed as a producer of the film.
Additionally, Chad Stahelski, the director of the John Wick series, will join the cast as director. His production company, 87Eleven Entertainment, will also be involved in the production of Sifu. 87Eleven is currently working on several film and television adaptations of video games, such as Ghost of Tsushima and Rainbow Six. The film's storyline is said to expand upon and continue the events of the original game. Using a mysterious amulet, the protagonist of Sifu gains the ability to resurrect, a crucial advantage that helps him defeat his enemies and avenge his master. However, nothing is free; the resurrection process comes at the cost of his lifespan, meaning he ages a few years after each resurrection.
