The Crimson Desert main development team moves on to a new project.
After achieving impressive sales and receiving numerous improvement updates, the Crimson Desert main development team has officially moved on to Pearl Abyss's next project.
This move shows the studio is accelerating its plans for developing a new game after completing its biggest project yet.
+ The Crimson Desert development team has moved to 'DokeV'.
According to reports from Pearl Abyss's shareholder meeting, the core development team for Crimson Desert has now been moved to develop DokeV , a game that was announced back in 2019.
CEO Heo Jin-young stated that the studio had to develop both the game and the new engine simultaneously, which took longer than expected to complete Crimson Desert . Therefore, the core team had to focus on this project for an extended period.
Now that Crimson Desert has been released, the team can fully transition to DokeV , allowing for faster progress on the new project.
+ DokeV could take another 2–3 years.
Pearl Abyss also revealed that DokeV will need approximately 2–3 more years to be perfected and optimized before release. This indicates that the game is still in deep development and is not yet ready to announce a specific release date.
Notably, both Crimson Desert and DokeV use the same Blackspace engine – a new technology developed by Pearl Abyss, with Crimson Desert being the first game to adopt it.
+ Crimson Desert continues to receive support.
Even though the main team moved on to a new project, Pearl Abyss continued to update Crimson Desert with numerous patches and improvements after the game's release. Previously, the game had sold over 3 million copies and received increasingly positive feedback after its initial updates.
Additionally, the studio has released a major patch to balance gameplay, fix bugs, and improve the player experience following the launch phase.
