Crimson Desert makes a spectacular comeback on the review rankings.
Crimson Desert had a rocky start, facing mixed reviews from both critics and the gaming community. However, developer Pearl Abyss quickly stepped in and successfully resolved most of these issues.
In its early days, the game's user score on Metacritic hovered around 7, then slightly improved to around 7.8 amidst numerous mixed reviews. However, the situation has completely reversed, with the official score soaring to a positive 8.3 and continuing to grow thanks to a flood of praise. Similarly, on Steam, from its initial mixed reviews, the game has now earned a 'Mostly Positive' rating.
This dramatic change stems from a massive update released a few days ago. With over 100 tweaks implemented, Pearl Abyss has thoroughly addressed the biggest complaints from players. Fundamental technical bugs, cumbersome combat mechanics, and frustratingly difficult boss battles, which were the biggest drawbacks at launch, have now been significantly improved after the studio seriously listened to community feedback.
While the game may not be perfect enough to compete for Game of the Year overall, it is undoubtedly a truly impressive RPG masterpiece. The free-roaming levels offer a unique experience, coupled with thrilling and satisfying boss battles.
The storyline in the early stages of the game might be considered a weakness. However, upon closer examination, the core focus of Pearl Abyss from the beginning was exploring a vast open world, and the developers have excelled in this aspect.
