Ranking of the strongest Pokémon by storyline: The 'gods' possessing universe-destroying power.

The world of Pokémon has long been known for the recurring conflict between its storyline and gameplay.

According to the series' lore, many Pokémon possess incredible power, capable of reshaping the world. However, that power isn't always fully reflected in the game's combat mechanics.

Undeniably, Pokémon is an incredibly creative and profound universe, where many individuals, especially Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, have the power to destroy or create worlds. However, many of them rarely make a significant impact on the competitive meta. Below are some of the most representative names, possessing the most formidable power according to the storyline.

Ultra Necrozma

Appearing in the seventh generation, specifically Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Necrozma is a Pokémon with a special role in the storyline. Known as the Prism Pokémon, this creature has a direct connection to Z-Crystals, the items that activate Z-Moves, as they are believed to be fragments from Necrozma's body.

In its ultimate form, Ultra Necrozma possesses overwhelming power, achieved by absorbing immense amounts of light, to the point where it can envelop an entire dimension in darkness. With the ability to travel through space, self-buffing its stats, and unleash devastating attacks, this creature is virtually unrivaled. Unfortunately, however, the Ultra Necrozma form currently only appears in the specific game version it was released in.

Zygarde

As the third member of the Aura Trio alongside Xerneas and Yveltal, Zygarde bears the responsibility of maintaining the balance between life and death. Initially, in Pokémon X and Y, Zygarde didn't truly demonstrate its formidable power. However, everything changed when its Complete Forme (100%) form was introduced.

When all the cells are gathered, Zygarde reaches its complete form, powerful enough to overwhelm both Xerneas and Yveltal. Furthermore, in Pokémon Legends: ZA, this Pokémon is upgraded with a Mega Evolution form. Mega Zygarde possesses a massive energy cannon, once used to destroy an ultimate weapon that nearly annihilated Lumiose City. Its signature move, Core Enforcer, is also upgraded to Nihil Light – one of the most powerful attacks in the entire series. Clearly, Zygarde does not take its duty to maintain order lightly.

Arceus

At the top of the list is none other than Arceus – considered the most powerful entity in the entire Pokémon universe. Appearing in the fourth generation of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Arceus is known as the Original One or Alpha Pokémon, the creature that created the entire world.

According to numerous Pokédex records, Arceus created the universe with 1000 arms, creating light, darkness, nature, and even other Pokémon, including Legendary Pokémon that control time, space, land, and ocean. Furthermore, with its Multitype ability, Arceus can change its type at will using Plates, making it incredibly versatile in battle.

For a long time, Arceus's power in gameplay didn't truly live up to its reputation. However, Pokémon Legends: Arceus changed that by revealing that players couldn't actually catch Arceus, but only controlled a portion of its power through its avatar. In particular, the Legend Plate item makes Arceus's Judgement move incredibly effective against all opponents, solidifying its truly godlike status.
