Switch 2 – Nintendo recently shared more information about its new handheld console at the Nintendo Direct event, from the console's specifications to exclusive games.

1. RELEASE DATE
Nintendo will release the Switch 2 on June 5th of this year.
2. PRICE
The Switch 2 will be sold at a price of $450. Additionally, Nintendo is selling a bundle that includes the console along with Mario Kart World for $500.
At $450, this is also Nintendo's most expensive console. For comparison, when the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, the handheld gaming device was only selling for $300.
3. ITEMS INCLUDED WITH PURCHASE

4. GAMES CONFIRMED TO BE AVAILABLE
At the recent Nintendo Direct event, Nintendo shared information about a series of first-party (Nintendo studios) and third-party (partner studios) games that will be available on the system.
Regarding exclusive games, the new system will feature the following titles:
- Mario Kart World
- Donkey Kong Bananza
- Kirby Air Riders
- Drag x Drive
- Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour
- The Dustbloods
Additionally, several Nintendo Switch games will be available for upgrade to the new console – such as Breath of the Wild , Tears of the Kingdom , Pokemon Legends: ZA , Super Mario Party Jamboree , and Kirby and the Forgotten Land .
Specifically, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be released on both platforms.
In terms of third-party games, Nintendo's new handheld system will be capable of handling a range of heavyweight titles such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake , Cyberpunk 2077 , Elden Ring , Fortnite , Street Fighter 6 , Star Wars Outlaws , Madden NFL , and NBA 2K .
5. BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY
The Switch 2 will have backward compatibility. Even before the Nintendo Direct event, the company had previously confirmed that Nintendo Switch games would be playable on the new console.
However, Nintendo also emphasized that some Nintendo Switch games will be 'not supported or not fully compatible' with the new system. Nintendo's list shows that more than 180 games may not run smoothly on Switch 2 .
In addition, information related to your Nintendo Account will be transferred to the new console, and you will be able to access your original Switch games.
6. NEW FEATURES
As confirmed at Nintendo Direct, the Switch 2 controller will still be detachable like the original console. However, instead of attaching to the screen, the handheld console will connect to the screen using magnets.
The Joy-Con 2 controller also features a GameChat button so you can freely communicate with other players.
Not only that, you can also place the handle on the table and use it like… a PC mouse.
7. DIGITAL NUMERICS
According to NVIDIA, the Switch 2 is not only more powerful than the Switch but also has '10 times the graphics performance of the Nintendo Switch'.
The Switch 2 has a 7.9-inch screen – larger than the original Switch's screen (6.2 inches) and the Switch OLED's screen (7 inches). In addition, this screen supports 1080p resolution (higher than the original's 720p) and supports variable refresh rates up to 120 Hz, as well as HDR.
When using the dock, the system will be able to support 1440p resolution at 120 Hz and 4K at 60 Hz.
The Switch 2 will have 256 GB of storage, significantly more than the 32 GB of the first Switch. In addition, the new system supports SD card expansion – with a maximum capacity of up to 2 TB.
8. BATTERY LIFE
In terms of battery life, the Switch 2 can be used for anywhere from 2 to 6.5 hours – depending on the game you play. It's worth noting that this is slightly less than the original at launch (2.6 to 6.5 hours) and subsequent upgrades (4.5 to 9 hours).
9. PRE-ORDER TIME

The Switch 2 will be available for pre-order starting April 9th. However, those living in the United States will have to wait longer to pre-order.
10. TIME FOR SHARING MORE INFORMATION
Nintendo plans to hold another Nintendo Direct event on April 17th to share more information about Mario Kart World .
Although not officially announced, Nintendo typically holds a Nintendo Direct event sometime in June. Therefore, it's possible they will share more details about the Switch 2 game this summer.
