GameSir G7 Pro Xbox – Gaming Gear Review

GameSir G7 Pro Xbox – Having quickly established itself with a range of accessories and controllers serving the gaming market, GameSir has always been a reliable name with a diverse range of controllers across various segments, making competitors like Machenike and BigBigWon wary.

However, despite holding a significant market share and having a product line spanning multiple segments, GameSir still faces a formidable competitor in the high-end segment: the Vader 4 Pro from Flydigi. Recently, however, GameSir has made a move to disrupt this segment with a highly promising new model: the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox .

With a host of new technologies, a completely redesigned look compared to lower-end products, and the fact that Microsoft Xbox has given GameSir permission to push the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox controller 's specifications to many times over, is it time for Flydigi to get nervous about the arrival of the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox ? Let's join tipsplay.net in evaluating this highly promising controller on the market!

GameSir G7 Pro Xbox – A complete transformation!

As a renowned manufacturer of gamepads and accessories with many quality products, I've always had a slight reservations about GameSir's design and manufacturing philosophy, particularly their series of products that seem rather bland.

That's right, GameSir is very good at rehashing old designs, rarely making concrete improvements to enhance the user experience. Most of GameSir's controllers, from the budget price range to over 1 million VND, are almost entirely plastic, lacking any ergonomic upgrades, material combinations, or design enhancements. They mainly just have minor changes to the lighting or surface texture.

However, with the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox, it's clear GameSir understands what this high-end customer segment needs. The feel of the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox in the hand is completely different from GameSir's previous products, a whole new level with a more ergonomic design, although still based on the standard Xbox controller design language.

The most noticeable feature of this new design is the thick layer of rubber covering the grip. This rubber layer increases grip, provides a comfortable feel, and is very user-friendly thanks to its smooth surface texture, unlike the rough textures found on the PS5 or GameSir Cyclone 2 controllers.

Most notably, the front panel of the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox is divided into three main sections, all of which can be easily removed thanks to a state-of-the-art magnetic closure mechanism. This magnetic closure is not flimsy at all; it fits very securely and tightly with virtually no looseness, allowing gamers to play with complete peace of mind.

But that's not all; gamers can also fully inspect the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox by completely removing the three front panels thanks to the transparent underside cover. This easy disassembly mechanism is especially helpful for gamers who sweat a lot, as it allows for easy replacement after a period of use when the rubber becomes stained or worn (which is unavoidable). Thanks to this interesting "disassembly" mechanism, replacing the D-pad is also easier, with three included options: a disc-shaped, a cross-shaped, and a hybrid between disc and cross.

The trigger assembly is also designed with an attractive translucent plastic finish, along with two additional L5 and R5 buttons, giving gamers more 'space' to customize settings for more complex games. However, these R5 and L5 buttons are somewhat small despite being raised considerably, which can sometimes make them difficult to use in certain games.

The back of the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox controller is also optimized with only two spacious auxiliary buttons, instead of the four buttons found on many other controllers in the same segment. GameSir also thoughtfully included two levers to lock the two auxiliary buttons on the back, preventing accidental presses after button configuration. This is a feature I highly appreciate because I've accidentally pressed the wrong buttons many times during gameplay, especially in fast-paced action games (where the button configuration is for a different game).

Additionally, the somewhat clunky trigger lock mechanism on the Cyclone 2 has been fixed and is now easier to use with a conveniently placed lever and a slight protrusion so gamers can quickly change trigger settings without having to flip the controller over.

The complete GameSir G7 Pro Xbox set also comes with a charging dock (without a magnetic base), something rarely included with controllers in the same price range and quality. If purchased separately, the charging dock alone would cost around 400,000 VND. A fantastic bonus!

The design of the charging base is consistent with the overall design of the controller when placed on it, and it also features a rather nice LED strip indicating the charging status of the controller. However, it's a bit disappointing that the LED backlight is only monochrome white instead of the more common RGB.

In return, the charging dock operates quite intelligently; players simply lift the controller off the dock and it automatically turns on and connects to the PC without needing to press any buttons. The bottom also features a USB port and a hidden receiver compartment, similar to 8BitDo's charging docks.

The included charging cable is also extremely high-quality, with a beautifully braided fabric that is soft and smooth, not rough at all. The only downside is that the cable is white, and sooner or later it will turn a yellowish-brown color after some use.

Overall, with its design and build upgrades, the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox has truly escaped the 'slums' to live up to the image of a premium, high-end product that GameSir aims for.

GameSir G7 Pro Xbox – 'Pleasure!'

To be fair, I was quite 'concerned' to see the Xbox logo prominently displayed on the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox controller design , as the Xbox brand itself is often a barrier to the most advanced technologies on the market today. But surprisingly, despite bearing the Xbox logo, the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox boasts specifications that far exceed expectations.

The GameSir G7 Pro Xbox is equipped with mechanical switches on almost all of its buttons, including the D-pad. Oddly, although both are mechanical switches similar to mouse switches, the D-pad uses Kailh switches, while the XYAB switches use Huano switches. It's unclear what technical differences this difference results from, but it's noticeable that the D-pad with Kailh switches is noticeably… very light.

Based on initial 'testing' experiences, the feel of this D-pad is very pleasant to the touch, very smooth, very light, but somewhat slippery. This may partly be due to the default D-pad surface being a smooth, round disc, and the tactile feel is significantly improved when replaced with the two included (but unattractive) D-pads.

The GameSir G7 Pro Xbox's D-pad assembly isn't as complex as Flydigi's hybrid D-pad; it simply involves pressing down on four switches. However, because the D-pad switches are so light, it might be difficult to use them effectively in some games that heavily rely on D-pad operation, such as fighting games.

Conversely, the XYAB keyboard offers excellent tactile feedback, just the right amount of responsiveness, moderate key press force, minimal play, and a solid feel in each key. Testing with fast-paced action games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice or Devil May Cry 5, the responsiveness and tactile feel of the XYAB keyboard provide a smoother and more professional experience compared to lower-end GameSir models like Cyclone 2 or Kaleid Xbox.

Compared within the same segment, the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox's XYAB and D-pad aren't quite as solid in click feel as the Flydigi Vader 4 Pro, but they're still among the best in the market for their price range. If you're not overly concerned about slightly higher performance in eSports games but still want something for a 'try hard' experience, the feel, clicks, and gameplay experience with the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox are far superior to the Flydigi Vader 4 Pro thanks to its two rubber grips and ergonomic back design, which is much smoother and more user-friendly.

Furthermore, a significant advantage of the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox over the Flydigi Vader 4 Pro lies in its more ergonomically designed shoulder buttons and triggers. While the shoulder buttons are smaller in size, this allows for a larger finger placement area on the triggers, resulting in a better tactile feel. The trigger release also feels better, with a shorter and noticeably lighter travel distance.

As for the L5 and R5 buttons, they also use the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox mouse switches, and I must say they're top-notch in terms of click feel: extremely responsive, small in size but with excellent feedback, and delivering exceptional performance. As someone who frequently plays Elden Ring Nightreign and sometimes uses these L5 and R5 buttons to activate character special moves (A + Left/Right Trigger), I was hesitant to use trigger locks because the long travel of the buttons provides a much better feel for heavy attacks or weapon artifact attacks than shorter travel. The presence of the L5 and R5 buttons is a lifesaver for that concern. These are also the two auxiliary buttons in the shoulder area that offer the best click feel among all the controllers I've used.

The two joysticks on the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox are also among the best on the market today. Besides the ultra-precise HE TMR technology, the feel of rotating these joysticks is incredibly smooth, smoother and certainly more accurate than the Vader 4 Pro, arguably approaching the top-of-the-line models in the ultra-high-end segment above 2 million VND. When you peel back the front panel, gamers can also see that the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox's beautiful red TMR Mag-Res joysticks are "made" by GameSir itself.

But that's not all; the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox also impresses gamers with GameSir's thoughtfulness in including a detachable USB cable holder right at the phone mount (the same standard as Flydigi). This means that if gamers really want to try hard with a cable and achieve zero latency, they don't have to worry about accidentally damaging the Type-C port if they throw the controller around while it's plugged in.

Furthermore, as a gamer who frequently uses the 3.5mm headphone jack on the controller, the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox comes equipped with a fully functional 3.5mm jack for listening/calling, complete with a microphone mute button right next to it. This is a perfect plus point and demonstrates GameSir's deep understanding of gamers!

In terms of specifications, the GameSir G7 Pro Xbox is also a big surprise thanks to its polling rate of up to 1000Hz – something almost impossible for a controller bearing the Xbox logo (usually limited to a maximum of 250Hz). The controller's battery also has a very large capacity of 1200mAh without having to power the flickering backlight, allowing gamers to play games continuously for up to 12-15 hours.
