A week after its launch, Highguard has finally added the much-requested multiplayer mode.
After a week since its release, the hero shooter Highguard has finally added a Raid mode that the fan community has been constantly requesting.
Highguard officially launches 5v5 Raid mode.
As the final announcement at The Game Awards 2025, Highguard was expected by millions of gamers worldwide to have something special. But in the end, countless people were disappointed when the most anticipated game showcase slot went to a live-service game.
Besides, there were quite a few rumors that this game would be similarly disappointing to PlayStation's Concord , but all of that didn't stop its official release on January 26th, and overall, thousands of people were still willing to experience it (mainly because it was free to play).
Upon its release, the most common criticism of Highguard was that matches often felt bland due to the limited 3v3 option. Fortunately, after about a week of bug fixes and gathering community feedback, Wildlight Entertainment finally decided to make the most significant change. In a social media post, the developer confirmed the addition of a permanent 5v5 Raid mode , offering another option for players who enjoy the challenge it provides.
According to Wildlight Entertainment, this mode was originally added as a limited-time test, and after successful testing with a "fairly even" player turnout between the 3v3 and 5v5 modes over the weekend, it's officially being rolled out to the general public. "You asked, and we're happy to share – the 5v5 Raid mode will be kept!", the developer shared.
5v5 RAID mode is expected to be implemented for Competitive play.
Unsurprisingly, the fan community is thrilled with this news, asserting that they prefer 5v5 matches over 3v3, especially in regular matches for more action. Additionally, many believe Wildlight Entertainment should keep the Competitive category as 3v3 when it launches in the future, while others hope the developer will offer a 5v5 option for Competitive as well.
Overall, the specific impact of the 5v5 mode on the game will only be known in a few more weeks. Besides the positive feedback it has given so far, there's probably still more to be done to significantly increase player numbers.
Currently, the game's peak concurrent players measured on Steamdb over the past 24 hours is 8,404. This is 10 times lower than the 97,249 concurrent players at launch, but since it's released on both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the total number is likely much higher.
Nevertheless, it's undeniable that it has lost a significant number of players, partly due to having only a 3v3 mode on a map that is arguably too large. But Wildlight Entertainment clearly hasn't given up on the project, with a shared roadmap for content releases in 2026, which is expected to be released in chapters every two months.
