Is Crystal Dynamics developing a Lord of the Rings game?

According to Insider Gaming, Crystal Dynamics – the developer of the Tomb Raider series – is working on a Lord of the Rings game .

Last year, Insider Gaming reported that a new Lord of the Rings game was in development. According to their sources, the game had received nearly $100 million from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and was designed to compete with Hogwarts Legacy .

At the time, Insider Gaming reported that the project involved multiple companies – including Embracer Group and Revenge Studios. Now, they say there's another studio involved as well: Crystal Dynamics .

Recently, rumors have surfaced suggesting that Warhorse Studios – the developer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance – is developing a Lord of the Rings game . Insider Gaming reports that while Warhorse Studios may be working on a Lord of the Rings game , they are not directly involved in the project.

In other words, it appears the two studios are working on two different Lord of the Rings projects, and Warhorse's project is not the one that received nearly $100 million in funding from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office.

Additionally, Insider Gaming reports that Crystal Dynamics is developing its Lord of the Rings game alongside Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst .

When asked by Insider Gaming about the Warhorse Studios project and the Crystal Dynamics project , Embracer Group stated that they do not comment on rumors.

Furthermore, Crystal Dynamics declined to comment.

Finally, Insider Gaming's sources indicate that the game is 'still quite a while' away from release.
