Honkai: Star Rail 4.0: Beginning the Moonlight Game Journey in Planarcadia

Honkai: Star Rail version 4.0, "Full Moon Is When the Gods Are Absent," officially launched on February 13th, bringing players to Planarcadia, Aha's playground, and launching the Virtual Moon Game journey with lots of new content.

The "Joyful Exploration" theme will officially kick off in version 4.0 of Honkai: Star Rail and continue throughout the following year. Alongside Planarcadia, the Astral Fleet will arrive at the headquarters of the Planet of Peace Entertainment, Astropolis, opening up a completely new exploration journey. Players will join new characters like Yao Guang and Sparxie on an interstellar adventure filled with unprecedented experiences.

1. Overview of the planet Planarcadia

Planarcadia was once described as a flat, picture-perfect world, until the Company took over and transformed it into a thriving, entertainment-filled planet. Planarcadia also holds a special place in the history of the Astral Fleet, serving as both Himeko's home and the ship's departure point fifteen years prior. Their appearance quickly became a focal point, with a manga series based on the Astral Fleet now being widely released on the planet.

The journey continues in Duomension City, home to the Illusionary Creatures, symbiotic beings that coexist with the inhabitants and sustain their lives through Willpower and public attention. Therefore, Duomension is always brimming with various forms of entertainment, from everyday activities to mysterious spaces leading to locations like Dovebrook, Graphia Academy, or the Masked Fool's Fun Tavern.

A spirit of fun pervades all of Planarcadia, where even conflicts are resolved through game. At the center of attention is the Moonlight Illusion Game, a game supposedly designed by Aha. The winner gets a chance to meet Aeon and receive a special, symbolic reward. The game has no fixed rules, revolving solely around attracting attention and drawing the involvement of multiple powerful forces simultaneously.

In combat in Planarcadia, the element of Fun is also incorporated into the gameplay through the Humor Points and Aha Moments mechanics, unlocking special skill effects and unique buffs for the Fun-Destined character, thereby adding tactical depth to battles.

2. Strategic General Yao Guang Makes His Debut

As Fu Xuan's senior sister, Yao Guang is considered a key fortune-telling advisor of the Alliance and is revered by the people of Xianzhou as a God of Fortune bringing good luck. With a mysterious mission, Yao Guang has become involved in this unexpected game at Planarcadia.

In terms of gameplay, Yao Guang is a 5-star Physical character belonging to the Joyful Destiny, focusing on manipulating the battle through the Auspicious and Inauspicious Divination mechanism. She can increase Joyfulness and provide Humor Points to the team, while also dealing extra damage to enemies during Aha Moments. The Rewardable Good Deeds buff effect allows teammates' attacks to deal additional Joyful damage, especially powerful when consuming Combat Points. Yao Guang's Ultimate Skill both adds Humor Points and activates Aha Moments, granting the entire team increased All-Attribute Penetration and expanding tactical depth.

3. Sparxie welcomes the fleet (Sparkle?!)

Version 4.0 also officially introduces Sparxie, a 5-star Fire-attribute character with the Joyful Fate, and the most popular streamer in Planarcadia. Sparxie's appearance is almost identical to Sparkle - the familiar Masked Idiot, and in the storyline, the two characters will appear together, creating unexpected situations for the Explorer.

In terms of gameplay, Sparxie opens a livestream room during combat, activating a voting PK mechanism with enemies. Players can spend Combat Skill Points to give random gifts, thereby restoring Combat Skill Points or Humor Points to their team. The higher the spending, the greater the accumulated Humor Points and the overall damage dealt.

During Aha Moment, Sparxie initiates a reward draw, dealing area-of-effect damage with multiple bounces. While in the Rewardable Good Deeds state, each reward appearance in PK deals additional Joyful Damage to a random enemy target. Sparxie's Ultimate further amplifies Joyful Damage, reinforcing her damage-dealing role and pacing the game around the Joyful mechanism.

4. Rewarding players with a limited-edition, free 5-star character.

In version 4.0 of Honkai: Star Rail, HoYoverse implemented a special appreciation program, allowing players to receive one of seven limited 5-star characters for free through the "Jump Event" which runs throughout the first and second halves of the version.

Additionally, players who log in during this major update will also receive a Ruan Mei skin completely free!

Alongside these, Black Swan and Sparkle also received buffs. Black Swan continues to improve its Sustained Damage effectiveness, while Sparkle expands its support range to include Joyful Damage, increasing overall damage for the Joyful Destiny team composition and providing more consistent support in upcoming combat content.

5. New events in version 4.0

Besides the storyline and characters, version 4.0 of Honkai: Star Rail also adds many new events and game modes to expand the long-term experience for players.

A highlight is the Cosmic Ice Battle event, where the Explorer participates in card-based duels to challenge powerful opponents and gradually climb to the pinnacle of combat power. In Furbobo Weekly, players will take on the role of a newspaper director, directly managing the business, making strategic choices, and experiencing a completely different perspective beyond combat.

Simultaneously, the perpetual gameplay mode Currency Wars will receive its first expansion, while the Fragmented Universe will also be updated, bringing significant adjustments to long-term challenges and further refreshing the endgame system.
