Overwatch will remove one of its core game modes from Season 1, Reign of Talon.
Overwatch will officially remove the Clash mode from the Quick Play system after Season 1 of Reign of Talon begins. From February 10th onwards, Clash mode will only be available through custom matches.
Clash leaves Quick Play in Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1
At the Overwatch Spotlight event, Blizzard surprised the community by announcing big plans for the hero shooter in 2026. Rebranded simply as Overwatch , the game will add 10 new heroes that year, with 5 debuting in the first season, along with a revamped user interface, role-specific passive abilities, and storylines that span the year, beginning with Vendetta 's hostile takeover in .
However, to make room for new content, at least one old element will be removed. Overwatch content creator Aspen was invited to Overwatch Spotlight and questioned the project's vice president, Alec Dawson, about whether any new game modes were coming soon. Dawson not only confirmed that Overwatch will 'continue with what's working well' and 'tune what's already there,' but also indicated that Clash will be removed from Quick Play next season.
Starting February 10th, players can only play this mode in Custom Games and it will no longer appear in any queues. Clash is a new game mode introduced in Season 12 of Overwatch 2. The mode consists of five objectives where teams must push deep into enemy territory to capture control points; the team that reaches five points first wins. However, matches are often fast-paced and easily one-sided, despite Blizzard 's balancing efforts .
This led to Clash being removed from Competitive Play from Season 15, although it remains in other regular modes. The Clash mode was also included in Stadium 's Ranked and Quick Matches when the experience launched in Seasons 16 and 18. With the mode soon to be playable only in custom matches, it's likely to disappear from Stadium as well .
Stadium mode seems to be getting forgotten.
Previously, the only game mode completely moved to the Custom Games system was when Overwatch 2 launched in 2022. Notably, both existing Clash maps in Overwatch 2 are remakes of the Assault, Hanamura , and Temple of Anubis maps. This marks the second time these battlefields have been removed from the core Overwatch experience .
While the mode is still developing quite strongly, it hasn't received much attention recently. A few months after its launch, it typically adds two to four new heroes per season, maps, features, and even a Payload Race mode . But currently, the only content for Stadium on the 2026 roadmap map is the Hero Builder character and improvements to the user interface.
Meanwhile, Overwatch 's Core mode will be adding a wealth of new content, including the Conquest event in Season 1 and the Japan Night map in Season 3. The introduction of new heroes in Season 1 Reign of Talon, coupled with the promise of more heroes each season, has truly left Stadium mode lagging behind.
Clearly, the focus has shifted from Stadium to core Overwatch at the moment, perhaps due to the higher player base. However, it hasn't been completely forgotten, so hopefully it will continue to receive support in the future.
