Reign of Talon brings Overwatch a massive player base on Steam.

Following a series of revealed changes, Blizzard's hero shooter Overwatch is experiencing a surge in popularity on the Steam platform.

Overwatch "2" anticipates new changes after Season 20

In an attempt to replicate the success of its 2016 launch,  Overwatch 2  has gone through many ups and downs and undergone constant transformations over the years. Although the PvE mode that was introduced at BlizzCon 2019 was canceled, that hasn't stopped  Overwatch 2  from undergoing its biggest transformation yet.

After Season 20 concludes on February 10th, a new era will officially begin as  Blizzard  removes the number "2" and launches a new storyline. A total of 10 characters will be added to  Overwatch  in 2026 along with the  Reign of Talon storyline,  accompanied by numerous major redesigns and changes.

And it seems these changes have attracted a lot of attention from players, with the  Steam platform  receiving significant interest from the community. Although  Overwatch  is certainly played more on the official Battle.net platform, the Steam version has seen a strong surge in players, surpassing even popular games like COD: Black Ops 7  and  Battlefield 6.

Many people are returning to Overwatch on Steam.

According to  Steamdb Overwatch "2"  has seen a 63% increase in average players over the past month, peaking at 69,881 on February 7th. This is double the highest number in January (around 37,000). However, it seems that this large player base hasn't brought positive reviews, with the vast majority criticizing the game for its PvE quest system being hampered by a cash wall, canceled campaign missions, technical issues, and more.

Recent reviews are currently only at "Mixed," while the overall assessment remains "Mostly Negative." Whether these overhauls can change the situation remains to be seen, perhaps in another week. While it may not be the story-driven quest system many were hoping for,  Blizzard  is showing a greater focus on the game's story in this "reboot."

Fans have plenty to look forward to, including the return of the hero card system after matches, the familiar branch roles for Tank, Support, and Damage classes, and a new Meta event where players can join one of two factions,  Overwatch  or  Talon,  and receive weekly rewards based on their chosen faction's ranking. Clearly, Blizzard believes these changes will mark the   full return of the Overwatch franchise.
