"The masked characters in the game have proven that no heist is too daring, no enemy too strong, and no fortune too great to stop their criminal ambitions," the studios described the content of this hit game. "Cinematic heists combine high-speed action in captivating locations with stories of betrayal and intrigue."

The latest game in the series, Payday 3, was released in 2023. The franchise has generally received positive reviews from critics. Starbreeze is also the Swedish game studio behind The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and Out of Sight.

The original Payday was developed by Overkill Entertainment. Starbreeze acquired Overkill in 2012. 'Our goal is to develop Payday from a game into a full-fledged entertainment platform that dominates the heist genre,' said Adolf Kristjansson, CEO of Starbreeze Entertainment. 'Payday is a key Starbreeze brand, and we're very selective in choosing partners who can expand its universe beyond the game. Vice Studios is the perfect partner for this project, combining creative ambition with the production capabilities that are characteristic of Payday.'
