After relentlessly grinding for 50 days to hunt for rare items, the male gamer was left disappointed because of one thing.
A hilarious yet heartbreaking story has recently caused a stir among the global gaming community, as one player spent nearly two months diligently grinding to hunt for a rare weapon, only to realize that their efforts were ultimately fruitless.
The main character of the story is a gamer in the popular ARPG game Path of Exile. This player spent six weeks—almost 50 days—farming for a special sword called Oni-Goroshi.
This is one of the game's iconic weapons, not only powerful in terms of physical strength but also possessing a truly unique mechanism.
In gameplay, the Oni-Goroshi is classified as a one-handed weapon. However, unlike regular swords, players cannot combine it with a shield or another one-handed weapon. This sword provides a special buff effect to the character and also has the ability to talk to the player, offering commentary on events during the adventure. This unique personality is what makes the Oni-Goroshi a highly sought-after item.
However, acquiring this sword is not easy. According to the game's mechanics, players only have two ways: either receive it as an item dropped by an extremely rare monster, or collect enough Divination Cards to exchange for it.
Therefore, the aforementioned gamer was determined to grind relentlessly in the hope of soon owning the legendary sword. Interestingly, this six-week journey even attracted the attention of the game's developer, Grinding Gear Games. However, the twist that made the entire community laugh came from a brief announcement on social media from the development team. They wrote: "To the exile who has been farming Oni-Goroshi for six weeks, this sword does not drop in Ruthless Mode."
This brief statement almost extinguished all hope for the gamer. It turned out that for the past 50 days, he had been grinding in Ruthless Mode – a game mode known for its extremely high difficulty. In this mode, powerful items are significantly restricted to provide a more challenging experience for players. And ironically, Oni-Goroshi cannot drop at all in this mode. In other words, even if the player persevered and farmed for months more, the result would remain the same.
The story quickly spread within the Path of Exile player community, eliciting a mix of humorous and sympathetic reactions. Some gamers argued that this was a prime example of dedication to a game being met with cruelty from the developers.
Some even suggested that this player deserved a special Oni-Goroshi sword permanently attached to their account as a reward for their rare perseverance. Some jokingly suggested that the sword version should only retain the single line: "Oni-Goroshi doesn't drop in Ruthless Mode."
