The Future of the Marathon Brand is Personally Endorsed by Bungie

Marathon's underwhelming launch left many fans worried about the game's fate, but Bungie is determined to quell those fears with its latest announcements.

Bungie is committed to long-term support for Marathon.

After numerous delays and a series of scandals surrounding its development, the game project finally launched officially last March. However, the game has not yet achieved the success that the developer and publisher, Bungie, had hoped for. Fortunately, that doesn't seem to have deterred the studio from pursuing their brainchild. In a recent blog post about optimizing performance for the PC version, Bungie reassured players that they will continue to update and improve the game in the future.

According to the post, the development team is "aiming for the long term" and "expecting steady improvements over many years" across all aspects of the game. Bungie also hinted at several optimizations that will include necessary changes to improve CPU performance, both short-term and long-term. Of course, this will also include visual improvements and numerous adjustments based on feedback from the fan community. In fact, not long after its release, Bungie began making changes to the game.

Sony continues its focus on Live-Service.

The developers also made significant adjustments to the inventory system, and these post-launch changes occurred quite a while ago, when Bungie decided to postpone Marathon  and  improve upon less-than-favorable beta feedback.

Although the game may not have achieved the same resounding success, the development team seems to have proven that they are serious about making  Marathon  a game that people can truly enjoy.

These commitments also seem to stem in part from parent company  Sony 's significant investment  in live-service gaming models. Last year,  Sony  acknowledged that the launch delays had somewhat impacted its ambitions to expand into the live-service model, but it remained committed to pursuing this direction.

Games like, or even earlier titles from Bungie, account for a significant portion of Sony's exclusive game revenue. Therefore, despite some development flaws, it's not surprising that the company continues to focus on this area. This could be good news for fans who have been wanting to experience  Marathon  for years, especially after the heavy flop of  Concord .
