Rumor has it that missions in Halo: Campaign Evolved will be crafted by a third-party studio.
According to Ryan Parreno, Rebs Gaming has released a detailed video about the Halo: Campaign Evolved project . This source confirms that Abstraction Games is the major studio that has partnered with Halo Studios to create this remake.
Citing an anonymous source from Rebs, Abstraction is primarily responsible for level design and engineering, specifically developing all the missions in the campaign, including conceptual design, blockout creation, visual refinement, scenario-driven event creation, and fine-tuning combat mechanics and gameplay to accommodate new features like sprinting and 4-player co-op.
Abstraction reportedly collaborated with Halo Studios twice in 2021 and 2022 to add accessibility features to the Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Sources from Rebs also indicate that development on Halo: Campaign Evolved began in 2023. While three years is considered relatively short by current game development standards, it's seen as sufficient for a remake. If these rumors are accurate, Abstraction is likely to be the developer of the new missions set just before the events of the original game. Abstraction Games' track record is already impressive, having worked on high-profile projects such as Baldur's Gate 3, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, Duke Nukem 3, Hotline Miami, and even Hatoful Boyfriend. With such extensive experience, this is considered a high-quality partner that Halo Studios could seek to revive its iconic franchise.
