Sony has officially removed nearly 700 games from the PlayStation Store.

Sony has just removed approximately 700 games from the PlayStation Store. The majority of these titles faced controversy due to their misuse of AI-generated content and failure to meet the store's stringent quality standards.

The most notable aspect of this purge is the dominance of a single publisher. Nostra Games, a Cyprus-based company, was hit hardest. They saw nearly 90 original titles disappear from the PlayStation Store, a number that even surged to almost 700 if all regional distributions were included. This purge clearly demonstrates Sony's increasingly aggressive approach to controlling the quality of releases within its ecosystem.

Despite receiving a "cold shower" from Sony, Nostra Games stated that they will continue with their plans to release their products on rival platforms such as Nintendo, Xbox, and Steam. It is known that the majority of their game catalog consists of simulation games with significant AI-generated content. CGI Lab also shared a similar fate, although their losses were reported to be less severe.

This is certainly not the first time Sony has taken drastic measures to clean up its inventory. Just last month, the Japanese tech giant also ruthlessly removed 1,200 games from the PlayStation Store for similar reasons, resulting in the entire catalog of independent developer ThiGames being wiped off the platform. Even further back, a few years ago, publisher Midnight Works also suffered the same fate when its entire game catalog was removed.

It's clear that Sony is accelerating the cleanup and standardization of the PlayStation Store. Especially in the context of the explosion of mass-produced, AI-powered "junk games," experts predict that the gaming community may witness more large-scale purges like this in the near future.
