The Serious Sam Universe Officially Returns with a Version Supporting Up to 5 Players

Four years after the release of the main storyline game Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem, this hugely popular chaotic shooter franchise is preparing to welcome a new title, a spin-off focusing on co-op gameplay.

The  recently aired Xbox Partner Preview  featured several notable game announcements, including the launch of  Hades 2  on Game Pass, the announcement of an expansion for  STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl,  and the release of the new game  Hunter: The Reckoning  , marking the return of the franchise after its initial release in 2002. Another highly anticipated title was a co-op spin-off of the  popular Serious Sam franchise  .

The trailer opens with five different versions of  Sam  joining forces to confront the villain and his relentless alien army. Fans are then treated to 40 seconds of gameplay, featuring boss battles, smooth movement, and smooth shooting mechanics. Another new element is Roguelite mode, allowing players to choose one of three different upgrades between each playthrough.

The gameplay promises to  "algorithmically change across handcrafted arenas,"  with varying levels of difficulty. These could be environments from previous installments, or new environments from another dimension, where the forces of that universe cannot stop the army led by the protagonist.

These armies also include both new and old enemy types, and players will be provided with an "abysmal arsenal" to deal with them. Notably, although Croteam  can  be considered the "parent" of the series, most of the spin-off games were not developed by them.

Since 2011, various studios have been tasked with developing the franchise, with Devolver Digital as the primary publisher. This particular installment is developed by Behaviour Interactive, a studio known for its multiplayer horror games. However, the studio has also worked on numerous game projects in various styles and genres. Most recently, Behaviour released a game in 2023 centered around raiding player-created plantations.
