Try out Payday 3: Return of the King!

Try out Payday 3 – Introduced earlier this year, Payday 3 is the highly anticipated sequel to the popular bank robbery game franchise from developer Overkill Software.

Overkill Software had originally planned for Payday 3 back in 2016. However, due to various issues ( Overkill's The Walking Dead was losing money, Diesel Engine 2.0 was outdated), Overkill had to create new content for Payday 2 in the following years, temporarily putting Payday 3 on hold until the last two years.

Last weekend, Payday 3 was opened for testing via a technical beta, the goal being to test the load capacity of their servers.

What's noteworthy about Payday 3 after this demo? Let's explore it together in the following article from tipsplay.net!

1. MANY ASPECTS HAVE IMPROVED

During my gameplay experience, I haven't had the chance to experience the stealth element of robberies (because I've always been connected to game rooms that prefer face-to-face interaction), so I will focus on the mechanics related to the game's 'noisy gameplay'.

Compared to its predecessor, Overkill seems to aim for faster-paced heists. This can be felt through the process of breaking into doors or safes.

In the previous installment, unlocking was done by pressing the F key, taking between 20 and 45 seconds. In the Payday 3 demo , this process is demonstrated through a small minigame, and if successful, it only takes a little over 5 seconds to unlock a door/cabinet.

Additionally, when attacked by the stealthy 'Cloaker' agents, the player will not immediately fall into a 'Downed' state; instead, the player's health bar will gradually decrease, and if a teammate shoots down the Cloaker early, the player will be able to get up immediately.

The second factor is the upgraded role of hostages. Instead of just being 'commodities' used as bargaining chips with the police in case teammates are captured, hostages can now also act as human shields, reducing the frequency of gunfire, or players can choose to release hostages in exchange for healing items.

Thirdly, the enemy's movements when hit by gunfire are more realistic and varied; for example, even wearing bulletproof vests, a single shot from a shotgun can still cause SWAT agents to fall.

This helps to convey the power of the guns in the player's hands more effectively, which is crucial for first-person shooter games.

Fourth, the game finally gave us the 'cook' grenade. Basically, this is the act of holding the grenade in your hand for a few seconds (1-3 seconds) after removing the pin, to ensure that the grenade will explode upon impact with the target.

This change is appropriate given that the enemies in the Payday 3 demo were somewhat smarter, running away as soon as they saw the player throw a grenade.

To elaborate on the intelligence of the enemies, in the Payday 3 demo , as the tension in SWAT team attacks increases, they also begin using tear gas grenades to ambush players standing still in cover. This is an improvement over the previous game's method of releasing tear gas into fixed rooms.

Finally, the game also encourages those who like to play loudly through the 'Overkill' bar located in the bottom right corner of the screen.

This is a score bar that increases as you shoot down enemies, and when it's full, the player can summon 'heavy' weapons to deal with the increasing frequency of enemies (in the Payday 3 demo , this is a grenade launcher).

Overall, 'Overkill' is a perfect solution for dealing with tanky Bulldozers, without taking up a single weapon slot.

2. PERSONAL OPINION

As a technical open beta designed to test server load capacity, the Payday 3 demo was quite enjoyable for the writer, but it also seemed to lack some familiar elements from the previous installment.

For example, players cannot command their AI allies to stand still in a specific location to defend themselves, or to shout for civilians to lie down so they can be easily tied up.

Instead, if players want to restrain civilians, they must perform the 'human shield' step, and only then can they push them down.

In addition, some objects do not have surface textures, such as the bullet casing shown below.

Of course, all these elements will likely be present in the official release, so the writer wouldn't consider it a drawback.

3. WHEN WILL IT BE RELEASED?

The official version of Payday 3 will launch on September 21st for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
