Wardogs is a new 100-player FPS game inspired by a chaotic Arma 3 mod.

Wardogs is an FPS game inspired by the King of the Hill mode in Arma 3, promising 'tactical depth, teamwork, and player freedom'.

When Embark Studios, the developer of Arc Raiders, brought us the three-team shooter The Finals, I couldn't help but wonder what that mechanism would be like on a scale like Battlefield 6. To find the answer, you can look at the King of the Hill mod for Arma 3, now developed into a full-fledged standalone game in collaboration with its creators. Wardogs is a 100-player tactical total war first-person shooter (FPS) that pits three teams against each other, a stark contrast to today's survival and rescue shooters.

Wardogs, from developer Bulkhead, is back as an independent studio after splitting from Tencent. They're building this new shooter in collaboration with 'Sa-Matra', the creators of the Arma 3 King of the Hill mod that inspired it, and publisher Team 17. For me, King of the Hill has always been synonymous with the 'golden days' of online multiplayer games, and hours of playing The Finals have proven that adding a third faction to the gameplay can really force you to change your approach.

Wardogs takes place on a massive 256km² map, nestled in the 'ruined industrial mountains of Eastern Europe'. A randomly selected 2x2km area is chosen as the 'control zone', and points are gradually allocated to the team with the most players in that area. Like the mod that inspired it, the team that reaches 100 points first wins. Therefore, you need to coordinate closely with your teammates to push the enemy out of the area, while ensuring your other players can regroup to fight.

Wardogs also employs a continuous currency system similar to Counter-Strike. Each time you appear, you'll purchase a custom build including weapons, equipment, support items, and even vehicles. Money is earned through your actions, and significant rewards come from teamwork in and around the controlled area. Helping to turn the tide of battle, transporting troops to hot spots, or reviving fallen allies will earn you money to buy more powerful gear.

Bulkhead stated that they wanted to ensure players had a variety of approaches to the action. Perhaps you'll be the one always charging into the heat of battle, thrusting straight into the center of combat to quickly gain an advantage. Or maybe you prefer wearing camouflage and sniping from a distance, or helping to reinforce strategic choke points that can protect crucial infiltration routes. You could become a troop transport specialist, or jump into an artillery tank and unleash a rain of fire.
