After 23 Years, a Brand New Hunter: The Reckoning Game Has Just Been Announced
After more than two decades of absence, Hunter: The Reckoning unexpectedly returns with a new version for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
When classic board games arrive on PC and Xbox
A franchise that had been dormant for a long time is making a surprising return to the Xbox system, officially revealed at the Xbox Partner Preview March 2026 event in March 2026. This is the first new game in the series based on the tabletop game of the same name in over two decades. Although initial information is still quite limited, the game is expected to offer a darker, more realistic perspective on the supernatural world, while adding RPG depth to the Xbox collaboration.
Teyon, the studio behind *Deathwish*, is bringing the World of Darkness universe to modern console platforms. Previously, the PC version , *Hunter: The Reckoning* , was released in 2003 and offered third-person hack-and-slash action gameplay. But *Deathwish* decided to take a different approach, offering a first-person perspective. Furthermore, this reboot is said to be not entirely related to the tabletop game series from the early 2000s. Teyon itself has proven its capabilities after the success of *Rogue City*.
The released trailer doesn't reveal too many details, with initial information suggesting players will take on the role of hunters tasked with eliminating monsters attacking New York . The trailer also shows a notable upgrade in graphics quality, first-person gameplay, and one of the types of enemies players will have to face: a police officer transformed into a vampire. The trailer also shows many locations outside of New York City, from a cabin in the woods, a gloomy graveyard, a blood-soaked, ruined bar, and a damp industrial basement.
An opportunity to expand the World of Darkness universe.
Following the game's announcement, Microsoft shared an interview with director Piotr Latocha, revealing several noteworthy details. According to the interview, the game will feature a semi-open world with a linear storyline but multiple endings depending on player choices. The game will also include side quests and romantic elements. Players can create their own characters through a 'very complex' customization system. Latocha stated that the game's inspiration comes from the television series and games such as Baldur's Gate 3 and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines .
This new game is based on the fifth installment of the series, where players are part of a "Cell"—a group of hunters who cooperate to confront stronger enemies. The game will feature a dice-based skill testing mechanism, similar to Baldur's Gate 3, along with strengths and weaknesses for each member of the group. After a series that has been dormant for over 20 years, Hunter: The Reckoning - Deathwish marks a highly noteworthy rebirth. Although other games in the World of Darkness universe , such as Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 , haven't been as successful, the universe still has a lot of potential.
