Resident Evil Executive Shares Vision for the Brand's Future

The Resident Evil survival horror game franchise has turned 30, and executive producer Jun Takeuchi has a few words to share with fans, including the future of the series.

Resident Evil executive sends a message to fans.

Resident Evil  is undoubtedly one of the most prominent survival horror franchises in the video game industry, and its sustained appeal over the past three decades is truly impressive. 2026 also saw an impressive start for Resident Evil, as it set a sales record with approximately 6 million copies sold within just one month of its release.

These numbers are a great way to celebrate the series' 30th anniversary, and  Capcom  seems very excited about it. Recently, executive producer Jun Takeuchi posted a thank-you message via the  Capcom Europe account.

The official 30th anniversary of its release falls on March 22nd, and Takeuchi is clearly grateful to the fans for reaching this milestone. His message refers to the success of Resident Evil Requiem, emphasizing that the game was a pivotal moment not only for the character but for the entire series.

His remarks praised the series for bringing everything back to  Raccoon  City for the first time in 28 years, combining signature survival horror and action gameplay into a single experience. He also didn't forget to mention the impressive sales figures.

After the  Requiem series  concluded, many fans wondered what awaited them next. Takeuchi didn't reveal any information about future plans, but he confirmed that the development team is planning to bring more games in the future.

There are still many projects waiting ahead.

Although Takeuchi has kept information about future games under wraps, fans recently seem to have received confirmation of a project in development. Game director Koshi Nakanishi revealed earlier this month that a DLC for  RE Requiem  is officially in development. The expansion doesn't have a specific release date yet, but hopefully it will address many unresolved issues.

Fans have been hoping for the return of characters like Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine, so hopes that one or both will appear in the sequel are growing.  "Our team will continue to work hard to bring you all even more amazing experiences in the future – and it would be an honor if you would continue to join us on that journey."

Currently, the future remains a mystery. However, one thing is certain: 30 years is a long time for a game franchise to thrive. Not many games achieve such a long lifespan. From the main installments to the spin-offs, Capcom continues to delve into the captivating world of Resident Evil, a world rife with horrific bioweapon experiments and shady corporations.

There have also been numerous leaks and rumors about future games. Recent leaks suggest that Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero remakes are in development, but such bold claims should be viewed with caution. Capcom's plans will become clearer over time. Until then, fans can celebrate the impressive journey of this horror franchise by experiencing the terrifying story of Resident Evil Requiem or replaying one of their favorite installments.
