Specific Types of Infections
Before diving into the main bosses, you need to understand the special enemies that appear throughout the storyline, as they play a crucial role in depleting resources and creating constant pressure.
1. Blister Heads
Blister Heads are mutated versions of the zombies you've killed before. In Resident Evil Requiem , any zombie has the potential to… respawn after a certain period of time.
a. Characteristics
- They move faster and are more unpredictable than typical zombies.
- Melee attacks deal significantly more damage.
- They often appear unexpectedly in areas you've previously cleaned.
b. Tactics
You need to completely dispose of the head or the entire body of the corpse using one of the following methods:
- Grace's Hemolytic Injector: Injects explosive chemicals into zombies. Only works when:
- Approach them stealthily from behind.
- Stun the target.
- The enemy is lying down.
- Leon's Axe: Utilizing Leon's melee abilities, players can stun enemies or push targets into walls, forcing them to their knees and creating opportunities to take them down.
- Powerful firearms: Guns like the Requiem or Classic 70 can destroy a skull with a single accurate headshot.
Proper 'corpse management' is crucial to avoiding being overwhelmed later on.
2. Singers
Singers are zombies capable of making loud noises by screaming, disorienting Grace and affecting her aiming ability. They are quite similar to regular infected individuals, but you need more ammunition to take them down.
a. Characteristics
- The periodic screams emanated from it, causing Grace to lose her focus.
- Harder to take down, requires more ammunition than standard zombies.
b. Tactics
- Prioritize eliminating them before engaging a large number of zombies to avoid losing control of your firing range.
3. Chainsaw Charlies
The chainsaw-wielding zombies, also known as Chainsaw Charlies, are essentially familiar zombies wielding this infamous weapon. They are extremely dangerous as they can take down Leon in many different ways.
a. Characteristics
- It's possible to cut Leon in half.
- It could fly straight into a person if the saw gets stuck in their stomach.
- Even when knocked down, the saw continues to spin and inflict damage.
- A saw that falls to the ground can still injure you if it's still spinning.
b. Tactics
- Maintain distance, use your gun to chip away at the enemy's health from afar, ensuring Leon's axe is durable enough to withstand their attacks. Absolutely do not stand close when they fall.
4. Garmr
The Cerberus dogs of yesteryear have now grown larger and… fatter, and are named Garmr. Leon stumbles upon these wild hunting dogs as he travels from one area to another of Raccoon City.
a. Tactics
- In this segment, Leon will use an unlimited-ammunition submachine gun to fire at the pursuing Garmr swarm. Prioritize the nearest targets to avoid being caught.
5. Lickers
Lickers are a fan favorite from previous games. They retain their habit of crawling on floors and along walls. They have a pouncing attack, which you can counter with a knife/axe.
a. Characteristics
- The cow crawled on the walls and ceiling.
- Leap forward.
- Attack with the tongue.
b. Tactics with Grace
- With Grace, players can throw acid bottles at them for a guaranteed one-hit kill, or use Hemolytic Injectors to eliminate them. If neither is available, sneaking past them is also an option, as Lickers are blind creatures.
c. Tactics with Leon
- With Leon, players can use their guns to completely overwhelm Lickers with firepower. If a Licker attacks with its tongue, Leon will have a chance to 'perfect parry' to cut off its tongue, earning the 'Cat Got Your Tongue' achievement.
The Main Bosses
1. The Girl
Grace repeatedly battles a terrifying creature known as The Girl throughout the storyline. These encounters take place at the Care Center Nurse's Station, the Care Center basement, and the Water Treatment Facility.
The Girl lurks in the shadows and often emerges from holes in the ceiling. As soon as you spot her, you must immediately run to an area with strong light. The light will burn her skin, forcing her to retreat.
Later in the Water Treatment Facility, you have the chance to finish off The Girl completely.
a. Characteristics
- Hidden in the shadows, it suddenly appeared from the ceiling.
- Overpowered by strong light, they will flee upon exposure to light.
- He relentlessly chased Grace in the confined space.
b. Tactics
Upon spotting her, immediately run to a well-lit room. The light will cause The Girl to flee.
The decisive battle at the Water Treatment Facility:
- Start up the 3 power distribution units.
- Utilize industrial lights and a Requiem gun to stun The Girl when blocked.
- Open the shutters to let sunlight into the bunker, and destroy The Girl.
After being affected by intense sunlight, The Girl will be destroyed regardless of whether you fire the finishing shot or not.
2. Chunk
Chunk is another fearsome boss in the Resident Evil Requiem roster . These two mutated brothers with insatiable appetites appear during Grace and Leon's journey through the Rhode Hill Care Center.
Don't let Chunk's enormous size fool you, because these giants can squeeze through narrow corridors, knocking over other infected creatures along the way.
a. Characteristics
- Large but able to maneuver through narrow corridors.
- Push away other infected people.
b. Tactics with Grace
- Grace doesn't necessarily have to defeat Chunk during her turn, but she can defeat it to complete the 'Grace and Goliath' challenge, which rewards her with a unique amulet.
- Try to eliminate as many infected enemies as possible while luring Chunk to an area he can't reach, such as the second-floor hallway leading to the Isolation Ward. Then, fire a few Requiem shots (3-4) to his head to finish him off, or wait for him to turn his back to use the Hemolytic Injector (3 times).
c. Tactics with Leon
- As Leon, you'll face a second Chunk in the attic. Despite the cramped space, you can still run around and climb ladders to avoid him. The newly found MSBG .500 shotgun in this area is also a highly effective weapon for eliminating Chunk.
3. Blister Borne
Blister Bornes are bulky, 'enhanced' mutant creatures that Leon encounters at Care Center Chapel and the Sewage Facility east of Raccoon City. They tend to charge directly at Leon, inflicting massive damage if hit.
The key to the match lies in destroying the densely packed tumors on their bodies. You can use a shotgun to shoot directly at these tumors. Alternatively, if you stun the enemy, you can use a melee attack to instantly shatter a tumor.
However, these tumors release toxins when destroyed, which can cause infected carcasses that have been killed nearby to reactivate and mutate into Blister Heads.
a. Characteristics:
- Large physique, capable of charging straight ahead and inflicting significant damage.
- Many tumors on the body act as weak points.
- Toxins from the tumor can cause dead enemies to be reborn in a new form.
b. Tactics:
- Keep your distance to avoid a head-on collision.
- Use a shotgun to shoot accurately at the tumors for effective damage.
- Only destroy the tumor after luring Blister Borne away from the zombie corpses to minimize the risk of them transforming into Blister Heads.
- Take advantage of the boss's stun to land close-range attacks, saving ammunition.
4. Titan Spinner
Leon will battle a giant spider named Titan Spinner at the NF building in the east of Raccoon City. This battle requires constant movement, as Titan Spinner tends to relentlessly pursue and pressure you. When the boss gets too close, you can shoot at fuel tanks in the area to deal extra damage.
a. Characteristics
- They move quickly, often clinging to and running along walls before appearing in another location.
- They have the ability to disappear from sight and then suddenly reappear.
- Summon small Spiderlings; they can jump on Leon's face and temporarily incapacitate him.
b. Tactics
- Always maintain momentum to avoid being cornered.
- Observe the ceiling and walls as the boss disappears to predict its next reappearance.
- Quickly eliminate the Spiderlings with a shotgun or handgun.
- When Titan Spinner gets close, utilize the fuel tanks to deal significant damage and create distance.
- Spinner's weak point is the lump behind its rear end. Focus your firepower on this point if possible.
5. Mr. X / Super Tyrant
Returning from Resident Evil 2 , Mr. X. Leon will confront him both inside the Raccoon Police Department (RPD) and outside the building.
In the RPD area, your main objective is to escape pursuit by moving up to the second floor. When he uses the helicopter's tail section to attack, run back the way you came. Then, find a way to dodge as you approach the second-floor balcony.
The actual fight will take place in the open area outside the RPD.
a. Characteristics:
- He usually charged straight towards Leon at high speed.
- It is possible to interact with the environment, especially by lifting and throwing the vehicle.
- A glowing heart is revealed on the chest when entering Super Tyrant mode.
b. Tactics:
- Be prepared to parry incoming blows with your axe. Ensure the axe blade is sharpened to maintain defensive effectiveness.
- If he stands near or climbs onto the vehicle, immediately move away from that position because he will throw the vehicle at you.
- Concentrate firepower on the exposed heart on his chest until he is defeated.
6. Plant 43
At the end of the winding tunnels in Blackthorn Station, you'll encounter Plant 43. This creature has a central head/shadow, accompanied by two large tentacles on its left and right sides.
The central head will continuously extend to bite Leon, dealing moderate damage. When its petals open, this is when you can shoot at the central sphere. While stunned, the two tentacles on either side will slam down on the ground. You need to move sideways, depending on which side is about to attack.
When the boss is sufficiently weakened, the fuel tanks beneath its body will be exposed. Shoot these tanks to completely incinerate this dangerous plant creature.
a. Tactics
- Always maintain a moderate distance to allow sufficient reaction time when the central head is about to bite.
- Only shoot at the center of the flower when the petals are open, avoiding wasting ammunition when it is closing.
- Observe the movement of the two tentacles to dodge to the left or right in time.
- When fuel tanks appear, concentrate your firepower on them to end the match quickly.
7. The Commander
Is this opponent HUNK, or just another enemy commander? Whoever it is, he's an extremely dangerous close-combat specialist (CQC). A match against The Commander demands precise reflexes and control over the pace of the battle.
Initially, the fight revolves around timing your parries perfectly to stun him, thereby creating an opening to counterattack with your slashes or shots.
Later, The Commander will throw smoke grenades and destroy steam pipes to conceal his movements. He will soon launch a surprise attack, so always be prepared to parry or counterattack.
a. Characteristics
- Proficient in close combat (CQC), with fast and relentless attacks.
- Use smoke and vapor grenades to obscure visibility.
- Leon can be subdued by a chokehold, activating a dangerous QTE.
b. Tactics
- Focus on timing your block precisely to stun him.
- Don't panic when your vision is obscured; hold your position and prepare to counterattack.
- When being choked, complete a successful QTE to escape, otherwise Leon will be instantly defeated.
8. Victor: Phase 1
Depending on your chosen ending, Leon may face Victor Gideon as the ARK base crumbles. In the early stages of the battle, Victor is extremely aggressive with his wide-area attacks and relentless pressure capabilities.
He will use his tentacle-like appendages to whip at Leon. However, you can still block the attacks at the right time to reduce the pressure and create opportunities to counterattack.
Occasionally, Victor will jump to the edge of the arena and begin accumulating electrical energy. A glowing streak will appear on the ground – that's the area about to be electrocuted. Leave that spot immediately. He will then lunge and slam down on the spot Leon was standing, so don't stand still for too long.
a. Characteristics
- Attacks using tentacles with a wide reach.
- It accumulates electrical charge and inflicts damage in a predetermined area.
- He swooped down from above, aiming for Leon's final position.
b. Tactics
- Timing is crucial for deflecting the tentacle strikes, minimizing unnecessary blood loss.
- Observe the streaks of light on the ground and move immediately if you see any signs of static electricity.
- After the electric shock, keep moving to dodge the blow from above.
9. Victor/Nemesis: Phase 2
After a short cutscene, Victor transforms into a gigantic monster resembling Nemesis. If you're familiar with this type of combat, you'll recognize the fighting mechanics that focus on destroying weak points and dodging area-of-effect attacks.
In his new form, he primarily uses powerful slams of his massive arms to the ground, inflicting significant damage and creating constant pressure. Glowing, pus-filled blisters appear on the creature's head, torso, and arms – these are the weak points where concentrated firepower is needed to stun him.
After being immobilized, more pus-filled sacs will appear on his lower body. At this point, you should use a Stacked Grenade or automatic weapon to quickly destroy them before he can retaliate.
This process will repeat until a QTE sequence is triggered, where Victor/Nemesis grabs Leon with both hands.
a. Characteristics
- The attack primarily involves slamming the hands down on the ground over a wide area.
- Numerous glowing weak points appeared on the body.
- Activate a dangerous QTE when you capture Leon.
b. Tactics
- Prioritize dodging high-fives and avoid standing still in one position for too long.
- Shoot at the glowing pus sacs to stun the boss as quickly as possible.
- When weak points in the lower hull are exposed, use heavy firepower or grenades to destroy them quickly.
- Complete the QTE chain successfully to escape the chokehold, then follow the button instructions to finish off his core with the axe.
Overall, the Resident Evil Requiem boss battles are not simply about 'shooting' at giant enemies, but rather a comprehensive test of resource management, spatial control, and the ability to read combat mechanics.
From shadowy predators like The Girl and colossal mutated creatures like the Titan Spinner, to intense multi-stage battles with Victor/Nemesis, each boss in Resident Evil Requiem forces players to constantly change their mindset and adapt.
If you understand their weaknesses, time your counterattacks precisely, and don't panic under pressure, you can absolutely overcome any challenge and confront any Resident Evil Requiem boss that this decaying Raccoon City throws at you.
