A modified version of the Nintendo Switch 2 console will feature a removable battery and an improved controller specifically for the European market.

Nintendo is in the process of creating an updated version of the Switch 2 with a convenient removable battery design. Now, players can easily remove and replace the battery themselves without any difficulty. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers also adopt a similar approach, allowing gamers to replace the lithium-ion battery without having to disassemble the entire device.

This marks a major turning point in Nintendo's hardware design philosophy. Previously, battery replacement always required users to make significant internal modifications to the device. With this new change, the design focus shifts to simplification, making maintenance easier and extending the product's lifespan. Currently, Nintendo plans to launch this special edition only in Europe and has not yet confirmed plans for release in other regions.

These revolutionary changes stem from the 'right to repair' legislation enacted by the European Union in 2023. These regulations mandate that electronic devices allow users to easily replace batteries without the need for specialized tools.

Technology companies will have until February 2027 to fully comply with this law. The ultimate goal is clear: consumers have the right to replace an old or worn-out battery instead of buying a new device or paying for expensive repair services.

Nintendo's move is entirely consistent with the general trend, as many other major players have quickly adapted. For example, Sony updated the DualSense controller design to make it easier for users to access the battery, while Apple also changed the structure of its latest iPhone models to simplify the component replacement process.

Although the removable battery version of the Switch 2 will initially be limited to the European market, leaked information suggests that Nintendo is considering similar changes if other regions enact regulations of a comparable nature.
