Xbox Game Pass may offer users the ability to customize their game choices.
Since Microsoft Gaming got a new CEO, the Xbox Game Pass segment seems to be undergoing significant changes, including price reductions and plans to add more customizable game options.
Xbox Game Pass has the potential to grow into an optional bundle.
For platforms like Xbox Game Pass, finding a balance between content delivery and cost is crucial. Putting control back in the player's hands could be the right approach for Microsoft to regain community trust. The service faced significant criticism in October 2025 after raising its monthly subscription fee, particularly when the Ultimate package was pushed up to $30.
Although this price increase comes with the opportunity to experience more games, including a range of titles and other games from the Ubisoft+ catalog, it hasn't prevented a wave of subscription cancellations.
About six months later, with the arrival of a new CEO at Microsoft Gaming, Xbox Game Pass packages officially saw price reductions, with the Ultimate package dropping to around $23 per month. This was clearly an attempt to bring users back to the service, and the plan to make the service even more attractive surely wouldn't stop there.
According to a report from Jez Corden of Windows Central, anonymous sources within the Xbox team have revealed that they are considering an "optional" plan, offering users more options beyond the current three subscription tiers: Essential, Premium, and Ultimate.
Xbox Game Pass users can customize their experience.
Currently, the codenames for these add-on packages are "Duet" and "Triton," and while it's unclear exactly what they'll offer, it's likely consumers will be able to optionally add or remove various services based on their needs. For example, Xbox Cloud Gaming is currently available to all Game Pass subscribers, but the new packages will allow users to remove this service for greater savings. Other items are game-specific, such as rewards for the Fortnite Crew service, which primarily provide additional content for players.
Additionally, another topic of considerable interest is Day-One games and their value to Game Pass subscribers. Typically, all games developed by Xbox studios are available to Ultimate tier users immediately upon release.
However, following the recent price reduction announcement, future games are not expected to receive this benefit. The removal of this major brand has allowed the service price to drop to near its pre-inflationary levels from last October. It remains unclear whether any other names will be removed.
