Payday: Aces High - A new Payday game is under development, but the gameplay is completely different.
Payday: Aces High delivers the chaos of audacious heists, but you'll need a virtual reality (VR) headset to play.
The Payday series has had its share of ups and downs. The first installment was promising, and Payday 2 established itself as one of the best first-person shooter (FPS) games on PC. As for Payday 3… well, let's not talk about it too much, and now, a new development team is trying their hand at an interesting spin-off. Payday: Aces High delivers the chaos of cooperative heists, but you'll need VR to play.
Fast Travel Games is a highly regarded virtual reality game developer, with titles such as Action Hero, Project Demigod, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice.
While most VR versions based on existing games require significant modifications to function in virtual reality, Payday: Aces High seems to be one of the easiest cases of conversion. Aside from using real hands to aim and shoot or wielding various heist tools, the overall experience remains the same – planning the perfect heist with up to three friends, avoiding triggering the alarm, and escaping with the loot.
Each completed heist earns you money to buy more equipment, allowing you to pull off bigger, more challenging heists. You'll not only learn how to manage your heist crew and complete each level together, but you'll also gain practical skills, using rewards to upgrade your criminal character, whether you choose to become The Mastermind, The Ghost, The Technician, or The Enforcer.
What makes Payday so great is the thrill and excitement of successfully completing each mission – and this is perfectly translated into an exclusive virtual reality experience. While the game will be available on Steam and the Meta Quest store, you'll still need a VR headset to play – you can wait for Steam Frame (as Payday: Aces High currently has a projected release date in 2026), or you can purchase Meta Quest 3 from Amazon and start preparing for the VR experience as soon as possible.
