Recently, World of Warcraft shared its content development roadmap for 2026 for both the Midnight and Classic versions, highlighting some interesting features.

World of Warcraft announces its 2026 content release roadmap.

The release date for  the World of Warcraft expansion  is drawing closer, specifically March 2nd. Meanwhile, players can enjoy the Pre-Expansion update, which includes numerous core system changes, character class adjustments, and the  Twilight Ascension event.  Now, what will be coming after the Midnight  update has been revealed  through the  recent State of Azeroth broadcast  .

The 12.0.5 update, launching this spring, includes an open-world activity called 'When the  Xal'ataths  forces need to be repelled from key locations throughout the regions of  Midnight . Additionally,  World of Warcraft  adds a new mini-game,  Prop Hunt  , where players hide throughout Silvermoon as ornaments, while others try to find them before time runs out.

Then comes Patch 12.0.7, with a new story campaign, and the Void Assault attacks   will also be upgraded. There are also other surprises in the form of a  standalone Raid  against a   giant  Spore Walker , which will apparently take place in Harandar.  Additionally, the Turbulent Timeways Timewalking event   will return for the sixth time.

Patch 12.1 will be the first major update after the DLC release, and it's launching this summer. Not much has been revealed, but evidence uncovered during the  WoW: Midnight Beta  suggests it may be set in  Atal'Utek,  the mysterious island located east of  Zul'Aman.

Players can expect typical features of a major update, including new areas,  Raid activities,  dungeons, World Bosses, a campaign mode, and other general updates. Patch 12.1.5 will be released in the Fall. While it's still quite far away and not many details are available yet, two very noteworthy points have been revealed.

First, a second minor patch for  Raid functionality  will be released, but unlike version 12.0.7, this time it will be tied to the storyline. Additionally, a new type of Instance called  Labyrinths  will also be introduced.

Described as a Mega-Dungeon of cave systems,  these large-scale Instances  comprise numerous different areas that can be completed entirely in one go, or broken down and explored solo, with a   companion delve , or in a group.

The final update planned for this year is 12.1.7. Many new story campaign missions will be added, along with the seventh Turbulent Timeways event and festival event updates, most likely for Hallow's End or Feast of Winter Veil.

Additionally, a brand-new standalone game mode, developed by the team behind Plunderstorm, will also be released. While not much information is available yet, based on the single image released, this mode could be the horror-themed mode that World of Warcraft hinted at PAX East last year – possibly a social deduction game like Among Us or an asymmetrical survival game similar to Dead By Daylight, centered around the Wizards of Drustvar.
