Rumors about Persona 5: The Phantom X potentially launching outside of China surfaced after evidence emerged that the game had been approved for release in South Korea. Atlus's fanbase has been calling for a global release of Persona 5: The Phantom X for almost a year now.

First announced in March 2023, Persona 5: The Phantom X is a gacha game for PC and mobile devices, tied to the fifth main installment in the series. Developed by Black Wings Game Studio, this spin-off is expected to launch sometime in 2024, published by the Chinese entertainment conglomerate Perfect World.

Recently, Perfect World's official website added a Korean subdomain for Persona 5: The Phantom X, indicating that the game will also be released in South Korea. As discovered by Atlus industry insider Midori, this website appears alongside a Korean YouTube channel dedicated to the game, as well as accompanying pages on Kakao and Naver, two popular social media platforms in South Korea.

Atlus wants to have their own Genshin and it was a choice between reworking PGS or working on a global effort for P5X. The plan is to expand P5X, which will release globally. A closed beta test is planned for Japan and there will be large-scale marketing.

This development comes just days after Midori last confirmed that a global release of Persona 5: The Phantom X was under consideration. On Twitter, the industry insider recently stated that Sega was hoping to introduce the spin-off to the world after its launch in several East Asian markets, including China and Japan. Back in the summer of 2023, Midori said Persona 5: The Phantom X had been approved for release in Japan. Since then, according to an industry insider update on January 13th, Sega has also decided to release the game globally.

Another Persona Mobile game may be in the works.

The Phantom X may not be the only spin-off game the Japanese gaming giant is planning to release in the near future; Midori previously reported that another Persona project codenamed 'Asa' is in development at Atlus, with the company planning to release it as Persona Grand Stage. Described as a team-based strategy game, the fate of this project is currently unclear, with Midori simply stating that the potential PGS launch would not prevent a global release of The Phantom X.

Regarding the upcoming Persona 5 spin-off, The Phantom X is about to enter its next closed beta phase in China, running from January 16th to 31st. Therefore, the game could be released in East Asia in spring 2024. In the meantime, fans can also look forward to Persona 3 Reload this year, with Atlus previously confirming that the remake of the third installment in the series will launch globally on February 2nd.
