This source shared an overall timeline of the Resident Evil series , including installments from Resident Evil 0 (which is rumored to be remade, scheduled for release in 2028) to the latest installment, Resident Evil: Requiem. The two Revelations films were also specifically mentioned.

According to Dusk Golem, many of the current key directors of the series – including Koshi Nakanishi (director of Requiem) – actually made their directorial debut with Revelations 1. Although initially considered spin-offs recounting past events, Revelations' contributions to the overall storyline were later deemed crucial. Therefore, internal discussions about remaking the game began.

Resident Evil Revelations was originally released in 2012 on the Nintendo 3DS, later upgraded to HD and re-released on PC and other consoles. The game takes place between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, centering on BSAA agent Jill Valentine and her partner Parker as they board the cruise ship 'Queen Zenobia' to search for the missing Chris Redfield, while simultaneously confronting the bioterrorist organization Veltro and the T-Abyss virus.

In terms of gameplay, compared to the intense action of Resident Evil 5 and 6, Revelations features a more traditional survival horror style: slow pace, scarce ammunition, and many puzzle elements. However, because it was originally designed for handheld systems, the game's controls are still considered limited – this is also seen as the biggest area for improvement if a remake is to be made.

The sequel, Resident Evil Revelations 2 , was released in 2015. Although the two Revelations films received lower scores compared to the main series, with the huge success of the Resident Evil 2/3/4 remakes and the impressive sales of Requiem, Capcom was clearly looking to maximize the commercial value of its entire IP.
