Starfield revealed on Nintendo Switch 2
Despite its disappointing performance and lackluster sales on the PlayStation 5, developer Bethesda seems undeterred. The latest information suggests that the epic space RPG Starfield is now poised for release on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Years after its initial release on the PC and Xbox Series X|S ecosystems, Starfield finally officially arrived on PS5 this month. However, this port delivered a terrible experience. The game constantly suffered from serious technical glitches that ruined the experience, causing the application to crash in less than 10 minutes after launch. The poor optimization was so bad that a large number of players became frustrated and decided to request refunds.
Starfield also recorded extremely lackluster performance on Sony's platform with a mere 140,000 copies sold, a disappointing number despite the game having previously recorded quite impressive pre-order numbers on the charts.
The disastrous launch on PS5 doesn't seem to have stopped Bethesda from moving forward, as they've begun working on bringing this massive RPG to another console. Recently, information about a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Starfield was unexpectedly discovered in the database of the Taiwan Entertainment Software Review Board. While the ranking doesn't provide details on the release date, it serves as strong confirmation that the game will definitely be available on this platform.
Speculation about Starfield coming to Switch 2 has been circulating in the community for a long time. Internal sources previously revealed the game was planned for release on the platform in 2026, but many have expressed skepticism about its feasibility.
Leakers have indicated that the development process for this port was far from smooth and encountered numerous technical obstacles. There were even reports that the project was at risk of being completely canceled due to production problems.
However, with the latest move from the software classification agency, the arrival of Starfield on the Nintendo Switch 2 may come sooner than expected. Nevertheless, considering the constant lag and crashes on a machine with superior hardware like the PS5, the gaming community has every reason to worry about an even worse version on Nintendo's next console.
