LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Announces the Appearance of the Absolute Batman Universe

With only about a month left until the official release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, the developer unexpectedly revealed the appearance of a completely new character in the Batman universe.

Absolute Batman lands in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

As gamers count down to the release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, developer TT Games, publisher Warner Bros. Games, and DC Comics have released a first look at the official LEGO version of Absolute Batman in the game. Written by Scott Snyder, the Absolute universe offers an alternate version of Batman, which has impressed fans since its October 2024 launch.

Much to Snyder's surprise and the readers' delight, Absolute Batman – a version with a criminal background – will make its LEGO debut on May 22nd, coinciding with the game's release. For those unfamiliar, it portrays Bruce Wayne as a working-class construction engineer who grew up in Crime Alley with friends like Killer Croc, Penguin, and Riddler, while Joker is depicted as a wealthy billionaire.

This alternative storyline allows fans to see Bruce Wayne's effectiveness in the fight against crime without his expensive technological gadgets, and this fresh approach has helped Absolute Batman become one of the best-selling franchises on the market. Therefore, it's quite interesting that  LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight  brings this "gritty" version to the game.

The official trailer not only showcases a 'tougher' version of 'The World's Greatest Detective' but also shares Scott Snyder's initial impressions of the character's LEGO design. The LEGO Absolute Batman suit features ripped details and the familiar edgy shoulder armor. Snyder said he was surprised the character was included in the game so quickly, just weeks before release, and was impressed that the LEGO version looked 'sturdy' and 'perfect'.

He was also delighted to see the Absolute version of Catwoman appear as a playable character, especially with its unique articulated tail design. Scott Snyder thanked the development team, calling them 'magicians' for bringing Absolute Batman into the LEGO gaming world, and commented that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is like a 'celebration' for the entire Batman universe.

Players will get to explore Gotham City with Absolute Batman, Absolute Catwoman, and many other familiar faces. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 22nd, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version is expected to launch later in 2026.
