Marvel Rivals Announces New Content Roadmap, Featuring Avengers Themes Connected to the MCU
Neteast, the developer, recently announced a collaboration between Marvel Rivals and the Avengers franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, promising a wealth of new content ahead of Doomsday.
Marvel Rivals prepares the biggest crossover of the year.
Currently in Season 6, with Season 7 set to begin on March 20th. The latest season has added Deadpool and Elsa Bloodstone to the playable roster, bringing the total to 47. According to SteamDB , Marvel Rivals reached a peak 24-hour player count of approximately 90,000 on Steam. While this is only a PC figure, it still represents a significant decline from its previous peak of 644,000.
Recently, Marvel Rivals has also faced direct competition from Blizzard's superhero shooter game, which is undergoing a brand reboot, attracting a large number of players back. But NetEase is also beginning to focus on developing new content for the future. Recently, the game's Twitter page shared a map image titled [Map Name].
This roadmap has five milestones, each corresponding to the title of a film. NetEase's announcement confirms that "new modes and in-game events inspired by The Infinity Saga" will be released in Marvel Rivals over the next eight months. This roadmap concludes in December with Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18th of this year, which will also add "brand new in-game content" to Marvel Rivals.
A series of events will be based on the Infinity Saga.
This long-term collaboration is expected to begin in April, featuring a new limited-time mode inspired by the 2012 film. This asymmetrical PvP mode will see one player take on the role of Loki, while six others face them. Loki will this time bring a "completely new set of skills" exclusive to this mode, allowing players to create illusions, trick opponents, and utilize "powerful Infinity Stone abilities" to pit opposing heroes against each other.
Specifically, the group of heroes fighting against Loki will have the ability to summon Hulk to accomplish specific goals. Based on official images shared by NetEase, it's possible that Loki in this mode will also have a skin based on the character's design from the classic film. Although NetEase hasn't confirmed any details about Avengers -themed content in the coming months, it's likely that most of it will be based on the Loki-themed game mode .
Fans are promised more limited-time game modes inspired by the Age of Ultron, Infinity War , and Endgame films, along with some additional costumes. It's entirely possible the company will release new characters corresponding to each event, such as in August and December.
