After beginning to have nightmares about his sister Huyen, Huy entered the Hell of Misfortune to free her soul, gradually uncovering a series of surprising truths behind the events that befell his family.
The journey to unlock memories in the Hell of Calamity.
Following the events of the first two chapters, Huy's journey to find his sister's soul in *The Calamity* continues with Chapters 3 and 4, recently added by the Rave Reversee team in the final version. No longer simply a series of isolated nightmares, Chapters 3 and 4 take Huy deeper into a personal 'hell' – where all memories, guilt, and obsessions intertwine, transforming into distorted and cruel challenges.
He arrives at Shui Men Guan – a massive lake of blood with a solitary shrine in its center. There, a mysterious voice reveals that Huyen's sister has been taken to the 'sewing machine kingdom'. To access it, Huy must perform a gruesome ritual: washing his face with blood to activate an elevator leading to deeper levels. From this moment on, Huy's body and consciousness begin to transform. Each time he performs the ritual, he gradually loses his human form – his teeth fall out, his face disintegrates, and a puppet emerges from within.
Throughout his journey, Huy repeatedly returns to his familiar apartment – now a horrifying space. There, he witnesses his mother in a state of blindness, pain, and disfigurement. Huy destroys his mother's eyes and tongue to reach the "Garden of Truth," unlocking a memory of his younger sister, Huyen , cleaning the house. When he touches her, she transforms into a piece of star-shaped wallpaper. Huy touches the wallpaper and is transported back to the Water Gate Pass.
From information provided by the sorcerer Dai Cuong, he realizes that Huyen's soul has been split into three, and he must collect them all. His journey to find the second soul fragment leads him to the "Mysterious Scales," where Huy must find a way to maintain the balance between the two sides of his father's personality—Rich and Poor—and ensure their survival. At the same time, he must guide Huyen's soul through the traps of mutated demons to unlock the next "memory": the image of his younger sister washing dishes.
On his third entry into the Water Gate Pass, Huy's face was completely blank; he even found other clones of himself in a similar state. After solving the puzzles, memories of his sister's funeral flashed before Huy's eyes, and his father was scolding his mother. This time, Huy decided to stand up and argue with his father, after which he began to hear the neighbors gossiping, saying that he was the family's bad omen.
After the ceremony, Huy unexpectedly saw Huyen and followed her. He arrived at a dark space with star-shaped wall stickers. Huyen said she had something to tell Huy, but it wasn't convenient at the moment, so she arranged to meet him on the rooftop at seven o'clock. Finally, Huy had the third piece of the puzzle, and now he had to make an important decision.
Throughout his journey to recover his three fragmented memories, Huy is constantly aided by the ghost of a mysterious woman. She appears again and tells him that he is losing his "scent of the living," meaning he is being devoured by a hellish calamity and must escape quickly.
Unlock different endings in Nhat Huy's journey.
When all three fragments of memory are collected, the truth is finally revealed: Huyen 's soul is beyond saving. Huy 's entire journey has been a psychological loop, manipulated by the evil god Tai Uong. This entity has been luring him deeper into nightmares so it can escape and return to haunt the Phong Xich Lan apartment building. If Huy chooses to destroy the fragments of memory he has collected, it means he is rejecting them and becoming a puppet, consumed by the fires of hell.
However, if Huy chooses to retain and use the fragments of memory to unlock the quickest path, he will climb to the top of the tower to witness a devilish feast. There, Huy encounters the evil god Tai Uong, the sewing machine demon, the knife-wielding demon, the sorcerer Dai Cuong, and the ghost of the woman who helped him. Tai Uong says Huy helped it completely possess Huyen's soul, and now it will celebrate with Huy's sins .
If Huy chooses the difficult path instead of sacrificing his memories, he will face a series of harsh challenges. After overcoming them, even though he has climbed to the top of the tower, Huy still won't make it to his appointment with his sister Huyen. He gradually turns to stone and falls into the darkness, where tormenting voices force Huy to confront the truth that he is the cause of his family's tragedy. However, it is the memories of Huyen – which he is determined to hold onto – that save him from that abyss.
Huy stepped through a portal of light and arrived in a completely different space: a peaceful lotus pond. After reaching the meeting point, Huy encountered a doll holding a kite, and his younger sister Huyen's voice rang out, saying that the message she wanted to convey was contained within the kite. Huy released the kite into the sky, then the image transformed into that of a man washing dishes – possibly Huy as an adult.
At this point, the boy came forward to show off the kite he had just made, then ran out into the yard where his sister was waiting, ending the nightmare of Calamity, or at least that's what we think. We will discuss the details that appear in the last two chapters and their connection to the beginning of the story in more detail in the next article.
