Try playing GORD

Try GORD – In recent years, the survival strategy game genre has become more popular and widespread than ever, starting with the decisive hits from 11 bit Studios like This War of Mine and Frostpunk, which ignited the gaming community.

Many studios have ventured into this genre to bring gamers products with many novel ideas, such as the "junk survival" game Floodland or the fun post-apocalyptic survival game Before We Leave, which tipsplay.net recently introduced to our readers.

Following that same trend, Covenant.dev, a relatively new studio from Poland, has introduced GORD, a game with a completely new setting and gameplay, promising to bring a fresh experience to fans of this genre.

Currently, GORD has a demo version available. What can we learn about the game through this demo ?

Let's explore this further with tipsplay.net in the following article!

1. A NEW AND UNIQUE CONTEXT!

Although Covenant.dev is a relatively new studio, its leader is Stan Just, a veteran who has worked at top Polish studios such as 11-bit studios on the Anomaly project , CD Projekt RED on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , and is also a member of many leading game development associations in the country. Therefore, what he has outlined for GORD as his first independent project is highly anticipated.

GORD is an English word of Slavic origin (referring to the peoples who inhabited Eastern Europe) that refers to fortified settlements built by tribal groups to explore and develop wild lands.

And indeed, in the GORD demo , players will follow a group of colonized tribes as they explore new lands.

It is a land shrouded in perpetual darkness, fraught with threats from the harshness of nature, from ferocious beasts found only in fairy tales meant to scare children, and from aggressive tribes ready to raze the fortified stronghold you have worked so hard to build.

Through this, players must constantly explore nature, discover new lands, and carry out tasks assigned by the 'messenger' who has been sent to 'push' them into this arduous journey.

You'll almost certainly experience a fantasy world similar to 'The Witcher', but with a completely different perspective as a survival strategy game, offering a fresh experience within the genre.

2. EVERY INDIVIDUAL HAS A STORY

The GORD demo showcases the game's uniqueness, where each member of your tribe has their own distinct story.

They have their own professions, strengths, weapon skills, and unique emotional issues that you need to understand in order to leverage their strengths within the community, to explore and withstand the harsh environment around them.

You can even train them to enhance their skills for various professions, equip them with weapons to fight more effectively, or simply give them honey wine to boost their morale after long periods of hard work, or… soak them in medicinal herbs to heal wounds after bloody battles against the enemy.

Of course, in a primitive society where there is always more work than people, planning for the development of each individual is a crucial key to achieving success.

3. PERSONAL OPINION

Although the GORD demo only briefly guides players through the first few missions of the game, what it offers is incredibly impressive.

Utilizing the Unreal Engine, the game's visual quality is incredibly impressive, especially the lighting effects, which are extremely vivid in the dark landscapes, bringing the oppressive and harsh feeling of the environment closer to the player.

The sound quality is also exceptionally good, especially the cutscenes, which are meticulously voiced by professional actors, connecting the disparate gameplay segments into a unified story with very logically structured missions that go beyond simply maintaining the tribe's survival against harsh environmental conditions, which could easily lead to player boredom later on.

Furthermore, the tribe's structures and development levels don't stop at what's already revealed to the player; they can be upgraded to much more complex management levels to combat ever-increasing threats, giant monsters, or ferocious supernatural enemies…

Finally, you'll undoubtedly be intrigued by a storyline brimming with contradictions, where players are caught between a rock and a hard place, struggling to find a way to survive for their tribe in the wilderness, leaving much to be desired and generating anticipation for the upcoming official release.

4. WHEN WILL IT BE RELEASED?

The GORD demo is now widely available. The official version of the game will launch on August 17th on Steam.
