Shadow of the Tomb Raider

While Kratos and Atreus prepare for the inevitable Ragnarok apocalypse, Lara Croft faces her own Mayan catastrophe in the third installment of the Tomb Raider series. Shadow of the Tomb Raider follows Lara's journey through the harsh, dense jungles of Central and South America as she attempts to outmaneuver Trinity to obtain the ancient Ix Chel, which can unleash devastating destruction.

It's safe to say that other Tomb Raider games are equally excellent, with stunning graphics and breathtaking action sequences that keep you hooked. However, Shadow, like Ragnarok, surpasses its predecessors by introducing newer mechanics and side quests beyond the traditional linear storytelling.

Immortals Fenyx Rising

If there's one game that delves deeper into the mythology of its world than God of War Ragnarok, it's Immortals Fenyx Rising. With this game, Ubisoft Quebec has created a fun and family-friendly game with a vast open world featuring characters, creatures, architecture, and lore inspired by classical Greek mythology.

The storytelling style is similar to games like Bastion and Transistor, but takes a new turn as the entire story is told through a conversation between Prometheus and Zeus. And you'll also meet many important gods along the way and solve complex puzzles.

Jotun

Jotun is the first project developed by Thunder Lotus Games, revolving around Norse mythology and sharing similar themes with their more recent title, Spiritfarer. It's a vibrant, hand-drawn 2D adventure that follows a Viking warrior who finds himself in Valhalla and attempts to earn a place there through direct conflict with Jotun giants and other mythical enemies across nine levels.

The protagonist, Thora, must also wield his axe to solve puzzles and defeat enemies, and the game is accompanied by storytelling through traditional Icelandic. The many deities you interact with throughout Ragnarok are integrated as abilities for Thora in the game, bearing names such as 'Thor's Hammer,' 'Freya's Speed,' and 'Heimdall's Shield.'

The Last Of Us Part 1 Remastered

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us remains one of the most moving and impactful post-apocalyptic stories in gaming history. The sequel is a unique feat with an even bolder narrative, but the father-daughter relationship and interaction forged between Joel and Ellie throughout the first game is quite similar to Kratos and Atreus in God of War.

The story begins years after Joel's daughter's death as a result of a planet-wide Cordyceps outbreak. During a meeting with the Firefly faction, Joel accepts a mission to bring Ellie, a young girl immune to the disease, to one of their facilities to develop a vaccine.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Hellblade is another game that falls under the influence of Norse mythology, set in the backstory world of Helheim, though it's a different version from Ragnarok. The storyline follows a linear journey of a warrior named Senua, who seeks Hela, the Norse goddess of the backstory world, to reclaim the soul of his lover.

It doesn't quite reach the level of Ragnarok, but its design is more in line with the story's single-minded focus. Senua's Sacrifice revolves primarily around the psycho's mental health, extensively researched by the development team and represented through the voices and hallucinations that plague Senua for much of the action.
