Leaked information reveals PlayStation 6 performance could triple that of PS5.

According to Moore's Law Is Dead, based on internal documents allegedly from AMD, the raster (traditional graphics) performance of the PS6 could increase by approximately three times compared to the PlayStation 5.

The latest leaks are gradually revealing the overall picture of the next generation of consoles, with the PlayStation 6 and the new Xbox promising a leap forward in technology. However, current figures still need to be viewed cautiously, especially given the volatile component market – particularly RAM.

Performance has increased, but not as dramatically as before.

While this is still a significant step forward, it's considered 'modest' compared to previous generational leaps. This is because raster graphics technology is gradually approaching its limits, making performance improvements more difficult than before.

Ray tracing is the most notable upgrade.

The biggest highlight of the PS6 lies in its ray tracing capabilities. Sources indicate that ray tracing performance can be 6 to 12 times faster than the PS5 – a very impressive figure.

This has led many to draw parallels with high-end GPUs like the GeForce RTX 5090. However, leaker KeplerL2 argues that such a comparison is incomplete.

The reason is that ray tracing is only one part of the graphics processing pipeline. Other tasks such as rasterization, image processing, and game logic still consume the majority of resources. Therefore, the overall performance of the PS6 is predicted to increase by more than 300%, depending on the game.

Is the performance comparable to a high-end PC GPU?

Based on current estimates, the PS6 could achieve performance comparable to a GeForce RTX 4080 in a PC environment.

However, it's important to note that consoles and PCs have different optimization methods. Console systems often utilize hardware better due to platform-specific optimizations, so the actual experience may far exceed the theoretical figures.

Price: Still below $1,000?

One of the most contentious issues right now is the price. Under pressure from component costs, many fear the PS6 could reach $1,000.

However, according to KeplerL2, a price of around $700 is still feasible. Although production costs could reach around $760, Sony could easily subsidize the hardware and offset the cost with revenue from games and services.

To keep prices reasonable, Sony may cut back on certain elements such as:

  • Remove the physical drive.
  • Storage capacity is limited to 1TB.

New technology helps 'rescue' storage space.

The 1TB storage capacity on the PS6 may no longer be as big an issue as it once was. Companies like Sony, AMD, and Nvidia are reportedly developing neural texture compression technology.

This technology significantly reduces the storage and VRAM required by games, opening up better optimization possibilities for next-generation titles. According to current predictions, the PlayStation 6 could launch in late 2027 or early 2028 – in line with Sony's traditional upgrade cycle.
