Based on leaked information online, it appears Metro 2039 will have a storyline that many fans of the series will not have anticipated.

Recently, a synopsis of the game was unexpectedly leaked on IGDB.

According to the description, this will be the 'most shocking' installment in the entire series, and the game seems to promise an extremely memorable storyline blending elements such as exploration, shooting, and stealth.

The game's synopsis is as follows:

The game is set in the year 2039.

Based on the information from this summary, one thing has caught many people's attention: the existence of Hunter.

For those who don't know, Hunter is the main character in the Metro 2034 novel , and it appears he will now become the key antagonist in the game's storyline.

Moreover, you will play an unnamed character nicknamed Stranger.

This is quite surprising because recently, 4A Games experienced a massive leak when 120 GB of data from a canceled version of Metro 2039 from 2022 was unexpectedly leaked online. 

Among the leaked data, many users discovered that Hunter is the main character of the game, and the 2022 version also features Khan and Bourbon.

As for why 4A Games changed Hunter's role, everything remains a huge mystery. However, one possible explanation is that the developer wanted to delete the 2022 version to rework the storyline to reflect the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Additionally, the description also hints at the return of The Dark Ones – the last time these creatures appeared in the storyline was in Metro: Last Light in 2013.

Currently, 4A Games, along with Deep Silver, are planning to unveil the first trailer for Metro 2039 on April 16th on Xbox's YouTube channel.
