Doom: The Dark Ages received widespread praise from both gamers and critics upon its release, attracting 3 million players in just one week and winning the "Innovation in Accessibility" award at The Game Awards 2025. The game introduced several notable changes, focusing on melee combat and equipping the Doom Slayer with new weapons such as combat gloves, a mace, and a chain whip.
The developers have been continuously releasing new updates for Dark Ages, including the addition of an endless arena with progressively stronger enemies to challenge players. Now, the game's director, Hugo Martin, has sparked anticipation by revealing some information about the upcoming DLC.
During the Slayer Live Club broadcast on February 27th, Hugo Martin stated that recent gameplay demos of the DLC had led him to completely change the gameplay compared to the game's existing content. He asserted that it "doesn't resemble" what players had seen in previously streamed gameplay footage.
Regarding the long wait, Martin asserted that the expansion is "massive," even saying it's "basically like a sequel." However, he also stated that the official teaser trailer is still a while away. While not directly confirming any new content, Martin hinted at a viewer suggestion for a side mode focusing more on the player's Perfect Dodge skill and counter-attacks.

The studio's 35th anniversary also coincides with another milestone for the classic shooter series, as the franchise will turn 25 on June 22nd.
However, the developer has yet to confirm any specific details about upcoming plans, simply telling fans to 'stay tuned' for more information in the future.
